Luella Jean Craig Bride Of N. B. Birchfield At Perham

CARIBOU, June 30 [1955] -- Miss Luella Jean Craig, became the bride of Airman First Class William Bart Birchfield son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Birchfield of Point Pleasure, W. Va., in an attractive candlelight ceremony Saturday evening at the Perham Baptist Church. The Rev. Gerald W. Swetnam officiated, using the double ring ceremony.

Baskets of peonies, ferns and seasonal flowers decorated the altar. Mrs. Merle Dow, church organist, played the wedding marches and incidental music. Mrs. Gerald Swetnam sang "Because" and "The Wedding Prayers."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of chantilly lace and nylon Tulle over white satin, fashioned with a fitted bodice, Peter Pan collar and long pointed sleeves. Her finger tip veil fell form a lace Juliet cap trimmed with pearls. She carried a bridal bouquet of American Beauty roses.

Miss Betty McDougall of Perham was maid of honor. She wore a ballerina length gown of yellow nylon tulle over satin. She wore a matching headpiece and carried a colonial bouquet of pink and yellow roses and white carnations.

Staff Sergeant Arthur J. Hanlin of Loring Air Force Base was best man. Ushers were Staff Sergeant John Bradley of Loring Air Force Base and Frederick Thompkins of Washburn, cousin of the bride.

The bride's mother wore a dress of navy blue and white taffeta with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations.

A reception was held in the church dining room immediately after the ceremony. Mrs. Wendell Moores of Washburn, classmate of the bride, was in charge of the guest book. Miss Jean Holts of Perham and Mrs. Richard McLaughlin of Washburn, classmates of the bride, presided over the gift table. The wedding cake was made and served by Mrs. Bennie Thompkins, Jr., of Washburn, aunt of the bride assisted by Elaine Bondeson.
