Joanne Howland Weds Washburn Man In Portland

PORTLAND, June 30 [1955] -- Miss Joanne Howland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Howland of Portland, became the bride of James Hunter, son of Mrs. Augusta Hunter of Washburn, Sunday afternoon at the Emanuel Baptist church in Portland; with the Rev. E. K. Nelson officiating.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. Sylvia Johnson of Portland was maid of honor and Mrs. Philip Copp of Portland and Mrs. Charles Gorman of Scarboro, twin sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids.

Farwell Sawin of Brunswick was best man. Ushers were Philip Copp of Portland and Charles Gorman of Scarboro.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Emanuel Baptist Church.

The bride was educated at Portland High School, Westbrook Junior College and attended the University of Maine. The bridegroom, who has received his discharge from the U. S. Army, is a graduate assistant in agricultural engineering at the Maine Agricultural Experimental Station at Orono. He graduated from Washburn High School and the University of Maine.
