Cynthia Ballard Becomes Bride At Washburn

WASHBURN, June 7 [1956] -- Miss Cynthia Helen Ballard, daughter of Mrs. James Butterfield of Washburn, and Nathaniel Arthur Churchill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Churchill of Washburn at ceremony at the First Baptist Church here Sunday.

The Rev. J. Wesley Stuart read the double-ring service.

The organist was Mrs. William Foster. Soloists were Bobby Umphrey, cousin of the bride, who sang "Together;" and Harry Duncan, presenting "Always," and "I Love You Truly."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, Eugene Ballard of Patten, was attired in a floor-length gown of nylon net over satin with lace inserts, fitted bodice, scalloped neckline and long pointed sleeves. Her finger tip veil was attached to a lace cap, trimmed with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of red roses.

Mrs. Dwinal Deeves, matron of honor, wore a full-skirted ballerina-length gown with fitted bodice, and scoop neckline of yellow net over taffeta. She wore a matching headband and carried a colonial bouquet.

The four bridesmaids were the Misses Phyllis Hay and Elizabeth Tilley of Washburn and Gwendolyn Churchill and Lorraine Cullins of Presque Isle.

They were attired in gowns and headbands similar to that of the matron of honor, in shades of pale blue, aqua, mint green and pale orchid. They also carried colonial bouquets.

Best man was Merle Churchill. Ushers were Robert Donovan, Dennis Ballard, Neil Umphrey and Donald Foote, all of Washburn.

Ringbearers were Stephen Churchill, brother of the bridegroom, and Arnold Ballard, brother of the bride.

Flower girls were Vicki Lynn Umphrey, cousin of the bride and Deborah Ballard, sister of the bride. They wore floor-length gowns of net over taffeta in pale pink and green.

Mrs. Butterfield, mother of the bride wore a street length dress of navy blue faille with white accessories and a corsage of red carnations.

Mrs. Churchill, mother of the bridegroom, chose a two-piece street-length dress of gray silk with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church dinng room. The receiving line included the bridal party and the mothers of the bride and bridegroom.

The guest book was circulated by Mrs. Marilyn Cyr, and the gift table was in charge of Mrs. Patsy Jardine and Mrs. Faye Thompson.

The wedding cake made by Mrs. Quentin Jardine, was cut and served by Mrs. Vella Donovan after the first piece had been cut by the bride and bridegroom.

Refreshments were served by Reveena Donovan and Elaine Churchill. The punch bowl was in charge of Mrs. Donna Foote.

Mr. and Mrs. Churchill left on a wedding trip to Connecticut and Virginia.

For traveling, the bride chose a gray faille dress and duster ensemble with white accessories and a corsage of red roses.

The couple will be at home after Saturday at Hines Street, Washburn.

The new Mrs. Churchill is a graduate of Washburn High school. Mr. Churchill is a graduate of Washburn High school and the University of Maine. He is employed by the Farmers Union Administration at Presque Isle.
