WASHBURN- The Washburn First Baptist Church was the scene of a candlelight wedding ceremony Saturday evening when Miss Brenda Jean Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Brown of Washburn became the bride of Larry Allen Turner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Turner of Washburn.
The Rev. Medley Wry officiated at the double-ring ceremony before the altar, which was decorated with candelabra and baskets of pink and white gladioli. Sue Thompson played traditional wedding music, and accompanied Miss Penny Burden, classmate of the bride, who sang.
The bride, Given in marriage by her father, wore a full length gown of Chantilly lace. The gown was fashioned with basque bodice, scalloped neckline and long pointed sleeves. The hooped skirt featured four large self fabric roses which topped the tulle ruffles that cascaded the skirt. Her elbow length tulle veil of bridal illusion was attached to a crown of seed pearls. Her jewelry was a single strand of her grandmother's pearls. She carried a cascade of Pink and white carnations and lilies of the valley centered with a single white orchid.
The maid of honor, Kathryn Kidney, classmate of the bride, wore a pink chiffon ballerina gown, accented hy long streamers in the back. The basque bodice was highlighted by a bow neckline and cap sleeves. She wore a matching tulle headdress attached to a crown of seed pearls and carried a colonial bouquet of pink and white carnations.
The best man was Galen Doody, friend of the bridegroom. Ushering were Paul Russell and Bert Sands. Junior usher was Eugene Brown Jr., brother of the bride.
A reception was held, following the ceremony, at the church dining room. The buffet table was centered with a fan - shaped bouquet of lilacs flanked by silver candelabra.
The guest book was circulated by JoAnn Brown, sister of the bride. Cheryl Brown, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Jack Doody, sister of the bridegroom, presided at the gift table.
The wedding cake, made by Mrs. Donna Cochran. was served by Mrs. Judy Marr, friend of the bride, after the traditional first slice had been cut by the bridal couple. Catering was Mrs. Donna Cochran.
For her traveling ensemble, the bride chose a two - piece coral suit of jersey knit. She complemented her ensemble with white accessories. The couple will he at home at North Main Street, Washburn after June 21.
The bride is a 1963 graduate of Washburn High School.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Washburn High School and is a student at the University of Maine.
