Wanita Cunningham Weds In Washburn Church Rite

WASHBURN -- The First Baptist Church in Washburn was the scene Saturday evening for the marriage of Miss Wanita Janet Cunningham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cunningham of Washburn, to Larry Douglas Hallowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hallowell of Perham. The Rev. Donald Switzer performed the double ring ceremony. At the close of the ceremony the church bells were tolled. The organist was Mrs. Emma Dow of Perham. Ronald Dow of Perham was soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of silk organza over taffeta with lace applique at the waist and on the skirt which featured a detachable chapel length train. Her veil was attached to a cabbage rose of seed pearls and crystals. She carried a cascade of white and red carnations.

Miss Melvina Cunningham, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, with Miss Sharon McLaughlin of Turner, Miss Jill Fox of Washburn, Miss Mary Lou Dickinson of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Miss Cynthia Hallowell of Perham, sister of the bridegroom, as bridesmaids. Their gowns, headpieces and flowers were similar to the maid of honor's. Dana Connors, Easton, college roommate of the bridegroom, was best men and ushers were Sheldon Cunningham, brother of the bride; Robert Stairs, Carl Grant, Daryl Peary and Jackie Reed. The reception war held in the church vestry and served by the combined mission circles of the church, together with Mr. and Mrs. Orman Blackstone of Caribou, Samuel Blackstone, Miss Phillis Russell, Mrs. Sanford Dudley of Presque Isle, and Mrs. George Mitchell, Thorndike.

The bride was graduated from Farmington State Teachers College where she was a member of Phi Nu Omega sorority. She will teach this fall at Fort Kent Community High School.

The bridegroom graduated from the University of Maine and also will teach at Fort Kent Community High School in the fall.

After their return, June 29, from a motor trip, to Niagara Falls, the couple will be at home at Fort Kent.
