PERHAM - Miss Shirley Carroll Howe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Millage Howe of Wade and Robert Dale Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rosco Smith of Caribou were united in marriage Friday evening at the First Baptist Church of Perham. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Carleton Cockey, pastor. Mrs Emma Dow, organist, played traditional wedding music.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a nylon lace gown with scalloped neckline and long pointed sleeves. The full length skirt had an insert of pleated nylon net. Her shoulder length veil fell from a crown of seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of yellow poms with gypsophilia and streamers. She wore a double strand of pearls, a gift from the bridegroom.
Miss Brenda Conroy, cousin of the bride, served as maid of honor. Her dress was of blue chiffon with full ballerina-length skirt and lace jacket. Her headdress was a crown of pearls with blue veil. She carried pink painted daisies.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Marilyn Rundstrum and Mrs. Alice Bragg, sisters of the bride. Their dresses were of chiffon with lace jackets similar to that of the maid of honor. Mrs. Rundstrum wore pink with a corsage of yellow sweetheart roses, while Mrs. Bragg wore blue with pink roses. They wore rhinestone tiaras.
Phillip Smith, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Roland Rundstrum and Leroy Bragg, brothers-in-law of the bride.
A reception was held in the dining room of the church. Assisting with the reception were Patricia Borden, guest book; Louise Sargent, Clara Porter and Pauline Faulkner, gift table; Helen Conroy, Theresa Maynard, and Betty Faulkner, refreshment table. The cake was cut by Mrs. Barbara Smith and served by Sheryl Ann and Terri Lynn Conroy and Diane Maynard.
Following a trip to the White Mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Smith will make their home in Caribou.
