Baptist Nuptials Unite Miss Baker, Mr. Grass

MARS HILL -- The United Baptist Church of Mars Hill was the scene of the Saturday wedding of Miss Genevieve DeWitt Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ovide O. Baker of Washburn. to Nathan Lewis Grass, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grass of Mars Hill.

The Rev. Donald Switzer, pastor of the Washburn Conservative Baptist Church, performed the ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Foster Nelson, pastor of the United Baptist Church. Roger Jardine, organist, accompanied Mrs. Dorothy Wilson and Murray Shaw who sang.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of silk organza with scooped neckline and A-line skirt. A full-length coat train was worn over her gown. Her bouffant floor-length veil was attached to a cap of sequins with a large bow in back. She carried baby orchids on a white Bible.

Maid of honor was Miss Lorraine Turner of Washburn. She wore an aqua linen, A-line gown trimmed at the sleeves and waist with white crocheted lace. She wore an aqua pillbox trimmed with circular net and carried blue and poms.

Other attendants were Miss Kathy Grass of Mars Hill and Mrs. Eddie Clark of Washburn. Their gowns and flowers were similar to that of the maid of honor. Wendy Turner was flower girl. She wore a white cupioni gown with aqua satin bow and streamers. Ring bearer was J. R. Doody.

Best man was Robin Grass of Mars Hill and ushers were Lowell Weeks of Wenham, Mass., and Charles Baker of Portsmouth, R.I.

After the ceremony a reception was held in the church dining room. Assisting were Mrs. Roger Jardine, Mrs. Joe Shaw, Mrs. Susan Grass, Miss Charlotte Grass, Mrs. Wayne Churchill, Mrs. Brenda Grass, and Mrs. Robin Grass.

The bride is a graduate of Washburn High School and is employed by the M. D. McGrath Agency of Caribou. The bridegroom is a graduate of Central Aroostook Institute, Mars Hill, and is employed at Aroostook Trust Company, Presque Isle.
