Penney Lou Burden Wed To Arnold Lee Wheatley

Penny Lou Burden, Washburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Burden, and Arnold Lee Wheatley, Garden City, Kansas, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wheatley were united in marriage on June 7 [1969] at the Washburn Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Lloyd Sparks of Washburn, performing the double ring ceremony.

The church was decorated with white gladolias and there was a candlelight ceremony. Margaret Harris was organist.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an organza sheath gown with long sleeves and a sabrina neckline, overlaid with alencon lace and a chapel train. She had a shoulder length veil attached to a lily-of-the valley pillbox. She carried a white Bible with corsage of orange sweetheart roses and white poms.

Her maid of honor was Mora Nickerson of Washburn who wore a mint green crepe sheath gown overlaid with lace and matching headpiece. She carried a single white long stem rose.

The bride's mother wore a pink crepe dress with matching lace coat, and pink accessories. She wore a corsage of white poms and pink sweetheart roses.

The groom's mother chose a yellow dress with yellow accessories and wore a corsage of white poms and yellow sweetheart roses.

The bridesmaids, Prudence Nickerson and Joy Parker of Washburn, wore apricot sheath crepe gowns overlaid with lace and matching headpieces and each carried a long stern white rose.

Jim Wheatly, Wheaton, Md., served as best man. Lester Bartley of Lawrence, Kansas, and' Terry Foster of Atchison, Kansas, were ushers, and junior ushers were Roger Wheatley, Garden City, Kansas, and Harris Nickerson of Washburn.

A reception was held in the church vestry where white gladolias set the scene. Faith Parker was in charge of the guest book and Sharon Bartley, Patsy Tilly and Rhonda Maynard were in charge of the gift table. Assisting in receiving and serving were Margaret Harris, Gaynel Tilley, Anna Maynard, Delores Tarbox, Donna Dootly, Beth Tilley and Holly Maynard.

The bride was a graduate of Washburn High School and was employed by Maine Potato Growers, Inc., while the groom was a graduate of Garden City Community Jr. College and has attended the University of Kansas. He is employed by Oswalt Industries, Inc.

On their way to their residence in Garden City, Kansas, the couple will travel through Washington, D.C. The bride chose as her travel attire an apricot knit suit with white accessories.
