Brown - Lavway Bridal Pair To Reside At Old Town

WASHBURN -- Miss Joanne Ruth Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene B. Brown, North Main Street, became the bride of David Royce Lavway, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Clair Lavway of Crouseville, in a July 12 [1969] candlelight service at the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. Charles Cousins performed the ceremony. Mrs. Priscilla Jones was organist and Miss Martha Bull, soloist.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, more a full length gown of silk antique ivory organza with appliquéd panel of alencon lace. The flowing train was attached at the empire waist line. Her veil fell from a cap of alencon lace and seed pearls. She carried white roses mingled with ivy and stephonotis. She wore her grandmother's pearl necklace.

Mrs. Cheryl Russell of Hampden, was matron of honor. Other attendants were Mrs. Brenda Turner, Mrs. Diane Hemphill of Easton and Miss Lynn Flewelling of Crouseville, Flower girls were Wendy Turner and Angela Sponberg.

The attendants wore baby blue gowns of chiffon over taffeta, with lace collars and long chiffon sleeves and also matching blue picture hats. Each carried a nosegay of colored assorted flowers.

Brian Blanchard of Mars Hill was best man and ushers were Judd Hemphill of Easton, Eugene B. Brown Jr., and Larry Turner.

The reception was held in the church Fellowship Hall. Assisting were Miss Rae Bates of Caribou, Mrs. Marie Beaulier of State Road and Mrs. Olive McBurnie.

Following a wedding trip to Prince Edward Island, the couple is to reside at Old Town.

The bride graduated from Washburn District High School in 1968 and attended Husson College in Bangor.

The bridegroom graduated from Washburn District High School in 1964 and the University of Maine in 1968. He is employed by the Soil Conservation Service at Orono.
