Elizabeth Corey Is Miss Washburn

WASHBURN -- Miss Elizabeth Corey was selected Miss Washburn during the recently held Miss Washburn beauty pageant in the Washburn High School gymnasium. Miss Deborah Drost was named first runner up and Miss Congeniality.

Sheldon Richardson acted as master of ceremonies and gave an address of welcome.

Ten girls seeking the title of Miss Washburn at this pageant included Sari Johnson, Elizabeth Corey, Rhonda Barker, Deborah Drost, Colleen Gregg, Kerry Condon, Theresa Theriault, Ruth Borden, Caroline Corriveau and Dalean Whitten.

The contestants presented their talents and appeared in sportswear and gowns.

Judges were Mrs. Frank Moffitt, Presque Isle, Mrs. Glen Campbell, Fort Fairfield, and Peter Kelley, Caribou.

Miss Corey was presented combined scholarships of $300 and Miss Drost was the winner of a $75 combined scholarship.

The former Miss Washburn, Mrs. Kenneth (Verdella Carter) Fox, crowned the new Miss Washburn.

Mrs. Rodney Drake and Mrs. Gerald Vaughan organized the pageant. Co-workers were Mrs. Harry Rideout, Mrs. Dale Whitten, Mrs. Richard Hartford, Mrs. Richard Porter, Mrs. Richard Farley, Mrs. Camille Albert, Mrs. Ansel Thompson, Jr. and Miss Carlene Bondeson.

Special music was furnished by Mrs. Richard Campbell, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Helen Tompkins.

Backstage workers were Leland Paradis, James Goodine and Ricky Porter.

Rodney Drake was in charge of tickets and programs were distributed by Kathy Tingley and Rita Drake.

Approximately 400 were in attendance.
