Graduate to found church

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Barry Alan Blackstone of Route 1, Caribou. will pioneer an independent fundamental church in Pembroke, N.H.. beginning in mid-summer. He has been invited by several Christian couples in the town to begin the new church.

Blackstone, who recently received a bachelor of arts degree in Bible from Bob Jones University, has been trained in the university's church planting outreach program under the direction of the Rev. Charles Underwood, a veteran church builder now on the faculty.

Blackstone, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell E. Blackstone, is a 1969 graduate of Washburn District High School. Upon graduation from Bob Jones in May, he was presented the founder's award in honor of his unusual concern for the lives of others.

The citation described the Maine native as one "whose influence and leadership was most akin to the compassionate, creative, and constructive efforts of the founder to help each student realize his greatest, potential for God."

Blackstone spent last summer as a student missionary in Australia.
