Mrs. Dow, 36-Year Choir Director, Honored

On Sunday evening, Sept. 16 [1973] the First Baptist Church of Perham was filled to capacity for a recognition service honoring Mrs. Emma Dow.

Mrs. Dow has been organist and choir director for the church during the past 36 years. Many fine tributes were paid to her by those representing the different organizations of the church. The following program, which was organized and formulated by Hartley James, a member of the church choir, was given: Master of Ceremonies, Malcolm Holts opening hymn, Pastor Howard; presentation of corsage, Perham Baptist Choir, Opal Meister; musical selection, Perham Baptist Choir;

Solo and remarks, the Rev. Read Blackstone accompanied by Sylvia Fox; tribute, Hartson Blackstone Jr. member of choir; duet, Darlene James, Cynthia Irving, accompanied by Mrs. Sylvia Fox; tribute, Cynthia Irving, member of choir;

Solo, Lewis Griffith, accompanied by Mrs. Sylvia Fox; reading of letters from former pastors, Mrs. Maddie Irving, Church Clerk; duet, Mrs. Iris and Carla Anderson, accompanied by Elaine Jepson; History of Mrs. Dow's 36 years as choir leader, Mrs. Lily Harris; musical selection, Perham Baptist Choir, accompanied by Mrs. Emma Dow; duet, Carroll and Glenna Blackstone; remarks, Pastor Howard Roberts.

Gifts were presented from the Church Choir, the Willing Worker's Circle and the First Baptist Church by Mrs. Opal Meister. Mrs. Harriett Holts and Carroll Blackstone, respectively.

Refreshments were served in the dining room by a committee from the Willing Workers Circle. Pouring coffee and dipping punch were Mrs. Lily Harris and Mrs. Harry Hallowell.

Members of the neighboring Advent Christian Church of Dunn Town joined the Perham Church for this occasion to pay tribute to Mrs. Dow. Also attending were several former choir members from surrounding towns and visitors from Presque Isle, Caribou, New Sweden and Limestone.
