WASHUCC PLAY FIRST GAME (Feb. 10, 2001)
Washucc played their first game against the SLU cricket club. There were ten players that turned out at 8:45 in the morning for the historic match. They included Shehzad Siddiqui, Bilal Allawalla, Ali Khan, Peter, Hessam Khaleeli, Rukhein, Kiran, Arham, Sanjeeva, and Ali Muzaffar.
Nevertheless, Washucc put up a very brave front against the experienced SLU side. Washucc won the toss and put SLU into bat. Ali Muzaffar opened the bowling with some crisp inswingers. He was supported by Sanjeeva, and both threatened the batsmen. Arham and Rukhein supported them very well with some on-the-spot bowling. SLU never got any partnerships going and lost wickets at regular intervals. However, they were aided by a lot of extras. SLU finished at 66 from the alloted fifteen overs. Arham and Ali took three wickets each.
Washucc's batting began terribly by loosing the first four wickets before reaching ten, and loosing both of the openers on 2. However, Ali Muzaffar kept the ship sailing with some cracking shots. The shot of the day was a towering six by Ali. Nevertheless, wickets kept on falling on the other end, and Ali was finally caught at the score of 47, making 13. Shehzad was the last to go, when he was bowled by a yorker the next ball.
Although this was a rocky start to the club's history, it was nonetheless a great experience. Now, Washucc has only one word in mind - "revenge!"
