negishi
In the Negishi storyline, Mihoshi chases Ryoko across space, both crash-land in Tenchi's backyard, where our boy hero rescues Ryoko. Ryoko tells Tenchi, Nobuyuki, and Katsuhito that she is being pursued by an evil "space pirate", but all soon learn the truth. Mihoshi activates her emergency beacon call, which is answered by Aeka (who also gets trapped on Earth after a battle with rival Ryoko). Sasami arrives to rescue her sister and immediately becomes a cook/housekeeper to the Masakis. Washu is found in a cave (the very same cave where Ryoko was trapped for 700 years in the OAV). Kagato appears later on as a pretender to the throne of Jurai (claiming to be the Lost Son, Yousho). Katsuhito is still Yousho in disguise but is only distantly related to Aeka; there is no mention whatsoever of any engagement between the two.
"Memory scenes" between Aeka and Ryoko are a hallmark of this series, showing numerous early events from very different points of view. Ryoko remembers Aeka as an arrogant uppity brat, and Aeka remembers Ryoko as a demonic destructor. Both remember themselves as precious, innocent children.
Negishi seemed to prefer that Aeka and Tenchi were more suited to each other, because in Tenchi Universe the two are pushed together every which way and we the audience are given several indications that Aeka is the girl for Tenchi.
Hiroshi Negishi also directed "KO Century Beast", "Bounty Dog", "Shadow Skill", "Burn Up W", and "Baby Felix".
Hiroshi Negishi directed the Tenchi TV series ("Tenchi Universe") as well as the three Tenchi movies. All of them, with the possible exception of Manatsu no Eve (the second movie, which is in a class of its own) follow what is now known as the "Negishi storyline".
