Janet van Dyne was the flighty, self-centered daughter of a wealthy scientist. When her father unleashed a monster that killed him, Janet convinced her father's associate "Hank" Pym to help her. Using Pym Particles, Hank subjected Janet to a procedure that allowed her to shrink in size and grow wings as well as fire blasts of energy which she called wasp stings. Thus Janet became Wasp. After beating the monster that killed her father, Wasp became a founding member of the Avengers. She's grown over the years, even leading the team for a time

History: Janet Van Dyne is the daughter of world-renowned scientist Vernon Van Dyne. When an alien brought to Earth during one of her father's experiments murdered the elder Van Dyne, Janet contacted his colleague, Henry Pym. She told Pym of her resolve to bring her father's killer to justice, and said she wanted to devote her life to combating criminals. Pym revealed his secret identity as Ant-Man, and Janet became his crime-fighting partner after undergoing conversion into a superhumanly powerful being.
