The story of Mary: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Sometime in the early 1930's, a young girl by the name of Mary was to attend a dance at O'henry Ballroom then known as Willow Brook Ballroom located in Willow Springs Illinois, Chicago. At some point in the evening her and her boyfriend got into an arguement and she stormed out of the place angry decideing to walk home in the cold winter night down Archer Avenue. She hadn't gotten very far before she was struck by a passing car which fled and left her to die. Her grieving parents buried her in Resurrection Cemetery in a white gown and her dancing shoes. Some say that they have picked Mary up and as they drive by the gates of Ressurection Cemetery, she dissapears.... | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Jerry Palus was the first to report a sighting of a spirit known as Mary in 1939.She left such an impression he was to remember it until his death in 1992. Paul was an unshakeable witness who appeared on countless television show to speak of his night with her. He had nothing to gain from the story so therefore there wasn't any reason to lie. He met the young woman at the Liberty Grove & Hall a dance hall near 47th and Mozart. He had seen her there many times before so on this particular occasion he asked her to dance, she accepted and they spent several hours together though she seemed a little different, distant and her skin seemed very cold, icey to the touch. When he later kissed her he found her lips to also be cold and clamy. At the end of the evening, being a gentleman Jerry asked the woman if she needed a ride home and she accepted and proceeded tp give him directions. Whem they got to the destination he noticed that it was not a residence but a cemetery. Mary then looked at him and said "I have to get out here" then she spoke very softly "but where I'm going you can't follow". Jerry was confused at what was going on but as he watched her walk toward the gates she dissapeared. That's when he knew he had been with a ghost. Jerry wanted to know who she was so he somehow found out where she lived and went there. When a woman anwsered the door they talked of his evening and was then showed a photo of a woman named Mary. He said to the woman that this was the woman who he had been with that evening. The woman told him that that was impossible for Mary had died a few years before from being struck by a car. Sightings of her increased in the 1970's probably due to renovations of the cemetery, possibly disturbing her spirit. There have also been sitings of ghostly monks on the cemetery grounds seen sometime in 1977 by police officers, as they approached the apperitions seemed to dissapear. |
