The original Fast and The Furious was a bad movie all around, It had very little plot and the plot it did have was way too predictable. The acting was below average and the racing was boring. Now comes along the sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious. I went in with low expectations since I hated the original and the movie ended with me actually enjoying it all around.
Brian O'Conner is on the run from the police after letting Vin Diesel's character go at the end of the first movie. He drives from town to town street racing for money but when he's caught, he's given the option of going to jail or helping bust a drug lord. He recruits the help of an old friend whose kind of mad at him for getting him arrested. The plot is pretty thin but you're left with some decent stuff. You never really know if any of the characters are playing the others for fools. You're given a decent amount of character development. Overall, the story is mildly entertaining.
Paul Walker returns and while I think he is a decent actor, he was good in Joy Ride, he is just horrible in this film. Of course when you have the likes of Tyrese and Ludacris you can't expect much. But hey, the acting is along the lines of "It's so bad it's funny". This is also another example of a script hurting the actors performance.
The script is laughable. The girl in the first race, who drives the pink car has some of the worst lines I've ever heard in a movie and they are so horrible I found myself laughing. Rest of the dialog is okay and there isn't a lot in the way of witty one-liners which most summer films are full of. The directing is okay, I felt the races were handled well and I never felt that they were drawn out. The pace is also good and I feel that it had a nice and steady flow to it.
Don't go into 2 Fast 2 Furious expecting the next blockbuster because it isn't. It's a fun popcorn film and nothing else. Not worth buying but it makes a decent rental and if your a fan of cars in general, you should like the movie but some of the stuff is pretty unrealistic.
