Cabin Fever was suppose to be released last spring but for some reason or another it was delayed until this fall. Well, it has finally hit theaters and it's obvious why the trailers were so vague. We're given a movie that has great idea but it's done horribly wrong.
Five college students head out to a cabin in the woods for a week to party. A stranger comes to their door one night, infected with something. They freak out and they end up catching him on fire. One by one the kids start getting infected by some flesh eating virus. We have an interesting story right there but it just dies out about halfway through the film and it never recovers. The characters are cliched and the ending is just plain horrible.
This is one of those horror movies where you have no clue who the cast is. The only person I knew was Rider Strong from Boy Meets World and I almost didn't reconize him since it's been a while since I've seen that show. Rider gives a decent performance, nothing great but it works. Rest of the actors are pretty bad but it's not all their fault.
The script has got to be one of the worst I've ever seen. The dialog is horrible and there were a few times where I groaned from how bad it was. The directing is decent but the movie shys away from som of the more graphic stuff, not saying this movie isn't graphic, one scene almost made me sick but I was sick when I went and saw the movie so that could have been a part of it. The blood really flows in this movie and seems to be what the film relies on.
I had high hopes for Cabin Fever. It has a lot going for it but the bad script just ruins it. The first part is pretty good and the gore is way up there. If you don't like a lot of gore in your movies then just skip this one as it's the main reason to see it. Not worth paying $9 to see but if you really want to see it just wait until it hits those bargin theaters or wait for the DVD early next year.
