While I may not be a huge fan of the whole Lizzy McGuire thing, I can sit down and enjoy an episode. I don't go out of my way to watch the show but if it's on, I'll watch it. That being said, I didn't have much hope for the film. I can now say I was pleasently surprised.
It's Lizzy's middle school graduation and she ends up making a fool of herself. For the summer some of the kids go to Rome on a vacation of sorts, with the new high school principal. When Lizzy is mistaken for Italian pop singer, Izabella, she finds an adventure she never thought could happen to her. The plot is rather lame but it does work. However, I felt that the plot twists near the end were too stupid to be believable, like they felt they had to have some plot twist instead of delivering a fun story.
Hilary Duff and rest of the cast from the show are found here, minus the girl who plays Miranda because Miranda isn't in the movie for some reason. The acting is good enough, I felt the love interest for Duff wasn't too good but his acting was good enough.
The directing for the most part is good, that is until you get to the end where a few things look questionable, like, "That really isn't the back of her head is it?". I also feel the ending leaves too much open, it just ends and doesn't show where anything goes from there. The dialog is okay, not really believable but it works.
If you hate Lizzy McGuire, then don't see the movie. It's as simple as that. If you're a fan or if your kid is, then check it out. It moves at a decent pace and isn't too long. Teenage girls will most likely love it and most guys will hate it for the cuteness factor of it all.
