Subj: Revelation 11:8 Date: 98-03-28 22:13:02 EST From: SERVFATHERRevelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city,
This verse tells you that satan will have overpowered the christians, that were witnessing for the Lord. As we studied last week the Lord alows this to happen. The reason is to test his children and to show his children he is in control. It is also to show the leader of the world and all the people who The Lord is. Let us break down the two things, first it says "dead bodies" what it actually means is "lifeless body". We are talking spiritually here, not in the flesh. The church has always been called the " the body" and Christ is "the head". This is just saying that the church will become spiritually lifeless. We have to remember the Lord told us we would not be harmed. When Moses was leading the children of Israel out of the captivity of pharaoh and Egypt. Did any of the Israelites get harmed or killed by the Egyptians? No they did not. That is the example the Lord put in the Word for us. When Satan takes over the world, he will be "Pharaoh". The system of the world today is called "Babylon" which means confusion, "Babylon" is "Egypt". The words "shall lie" were added in the english. They are not in the greek. "In the street" just means "in a wide place". The key to this verse is "that great city", which is "babylon", which means confusion. So what does this verse really say, it says "So their lifeless body will be in the wide place of Babylon." Which simple means the "church" will be not doing anything spiritually at that time. "The street" is also used in another place by Jesus as it is written; Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. The way of the world is "wide" and easy to stay on. But the way to the kingdom of heaven is "narrow" and very difficult. In other words it is easy to be bad, but it is very difficult to be good in this flesh body. That is what this "street" is. Thank you Father for your wisdom and understanding. The next verses explain the "great city"; Rev 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. Rev 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Revelation 11:8 which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
This part of the verse tells us to think spiritually. What will "Babylon" be doing? It will be Like "Sodom", which was full adultry and fornication. We are talking spiritually here this means the world will be "in bed" with Satan and his "religion". It will be like "egypt" which means worshipping idols and Satan instead of the Lord. In His Service
