The chapter we are going into is an awesome chapter! If you ever wanted to know
about Satan's fall and what he did, we have some of it written here. The Father is so good
to us when we have questions that we don't have answers to and no one even asks about.
Well here is a question for you, I am willing to bet no one ever brought up before. In
Genesis chapter 1&2, it tells about the creation. Then in chapter 3, Satan is introduced as
"the serpent". As we read we find out that he is already bad and is trying to get "man" in
trouble. The question is this; When did Satan go bad and why? The Father answers that
question for us in the Word.
I am going into this because it is a missing part of the puzzle, that we need, to
understand Revelation chapter 12.
Let us start at the beginning and put the pieces of the puzzle together, then we will
get a whole picture, of what really happened.
The first thing we have to do is look at the first verse in the bible.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (This tells us that
the Lord created heaven and earth. That is all it says, it does not have a time frame for
us.)
The next verse is very interesting, let us look into it. Ask the Father for the
understanding and wisdom to see what is written here. It is very interesting.
Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face
of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Let us break this verse into parts and look at each one. First of all verse 1 told us that
God created heaven and earth, this verse says "and the earth was without form and void".
The way this is written in the english, it sounds like The Lord created the earth formless
and empty with nothing on it.
Then the next part of the verse says "and darkness was upon the face of the deep".
This tells us that there is no light. This also tells us there is a "deep". What is a " the
deep" ? Now we know the earth had a "deep".
The next part of the verse says " And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters." Now we also know there was water. When did God create the water, it is not
mentioned. There is something missing, something just doesn't fit right. The answer is
very simple, in verse 2 the word "was" is not a correct translation and so things do not fit.
It has two meanings, one is "was" the other is "became".
If we put the correct translation of this word we will have a whole new picture.
Genesis 1:2 "And the earth "became" without form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters". As you can
see this changes the verse.
I have a couple of verses from the bible that translate the same word as "became"
and not "was". Genesis is one of the verses. This is Lot's wife, and this is what happened
to her. She "became" a pillar of salt.
Gen 19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
The second verse we can look at is in Exodus. The rod "became" a serpent. In neither
verses would the word "was" sound right.
Exod 7:10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD
had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants,
and it became a serpent.
Just like it does not sound right in verse :2 of Genesis chapter 1. Now we know that
something happened, but what, is a new question. The reason we know something
happened, is because God did not create the earth void and without form as it is written in
Isaiah. Isa 45:18 "For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself
that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he
formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else." This verse tells us that
the Lord created the earth to be inhabited, not void and empty. The word "vain" in this
verse, is the same word in hebrew, as the words "without form" in Genesis 1:2.
If you want to see another place this is mentioned, and it goes into more detail, read
Jer 4:23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and
they had no light. This is the Lord speaking and he tells us what the earth looked like at
that time and what it looked like before that time.
Let us get back to Satan's roll in all this. First of all, what was Satan like when he
was created? Do you think the Lord created him evil? Of course not! Let us read how the
Lord created him as it is written.
Ezek 28:12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto
him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in
beauty. (Satan was created perfect and had all the wisdom)
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering,
the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the
emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was
prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. (Satan was in the Garden of Eden and
he was created)
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon
the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of
fire. (Satan was the protecting angel of the Altar of God.)
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was
found in thee.(Satan was created perfect, until sin appeared in him.)
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with
violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of
God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.(So
God threw him of the Altar)
17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom
by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that
they may behold thee.(Satan's sin was pride, the same thing he uses on us.)
18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity
of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour
thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
(Satan also sin, by bringing others with him. So the Lord will destroy Satan and he will be
no more than ashes and everyone will see this happen to him.)
19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be
a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.( Everyone that knew him, will be amazed at
how weak he really is, and the Lord will destroy satan, so that he will never be able to
come back again.)
Another name for Satan is Lucifer and the next verses tell us a little more about him.
Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art
thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (Satan will be thrown down
to earth, "ground" means earth. This is also mentioned in Rev 12:9 "And the great dragon
was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole
world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him".)
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my
throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the
sides of the north: (Satan wants to be above all the angels)
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most
High.(Satan wants to be God 2 Th 2:4 "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that
is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,
shewing himself that he is God." See Satan never changes.)
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.(But all he is
going to get is to be thrown in the pit. This is mentioned in revelation also, Rev 20:1 And
I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great
chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and
bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that
he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after
that he must be loosed a little season.)
Isa 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee,
saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; (everyone
will be able to see Satan in the pit and they will say is this the one that shook up the whole
earth and the nations of earth. Dan 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the
fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the
whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
Dan 7:24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and
another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue
three kings.
25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the
saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into
his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time." This is satan and he will set up
his one world system.)
Isa 14:17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that
opened not the house of his prisoners?(He kept everyone in spiritual bonds. Rev 17:3
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit
upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten
horns.)
So now we know how Satan was created, why he went bad, and what he is trying to
do. He was created perfect and good. He started to have pride in himself, he thought he
was something. He wants to take as many of God children with him as possible.
Where is Satan now? He is in heaven behind Jesus until he is thrown out as it is
written; Luke 4:8 "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for
it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."
Jesus also tells us what will happen to Satan, Luke 10:18 "And he said unto
them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."
We are told in the Word that satan will pretend to be good when he is thrown down to
earth as it is written2 Cor 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed
(this word is disguised) into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of
righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
We are also told one of the last things Satan did while he was on earth was to make
Judas betray Jesus as it is written; It was not Judas that betrayed Jesus, it was Judas
possessed with Satan. When someone is possessed they have no control over what they
do. So do not judge Judas to harshly. Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed
Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he
might betray him unto them.
Then a second witness that it was satan not Judas.John 13:27 And after the sop Satan
entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
Satan had many parts in the plan of God, and he did many things. The worst of all is
what is written in Revelation chapter 12. We will study that next week.
