Thats the phrase that means, get your spiritual ears open and understand what he is saying. There is more than the flesh being talked about.
Matthew 13:10 The disciples came to him and they asked him "Why do you talk to them in parables?"
Have you ever wondered why someone could not understand what you were trying to explain about the word? Jesus tells us why, he talks in parables. He said" because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.
He is saying it is not ment for everyone to understand what I am talking about.
The next thing you ask is "why is only certain people allowed to understand?" Jesus explains in Matthew 13:11; because if you have some of the truth, then you will receive more truth and understanding, and you will be given more and more knowledge and understanding. God will keep adding to what you know, so that you can spiritually grow. But if you don't have any truth in your mind, then any truth that you hear will be taken away from you. This is for your protection.
Jesus then explains it was wdtten that they would not be able to see or hear.
In Matthew 13:18 Jesus is going to spiritually explain the parable. Do you have ears to hear?.
The First one was those seeds that fell by the wayside, (hard and sunbacked ground) when someone hears the words of the kingdom(truth) and doesnt understand what they are headng, (God doesn't allow them to understand) then comes the wicked one (satan) and takes the truth that was put in their mind.
These people are too steeped into traditions of man, they are stubbom and rebellious to anything except for what they have been taught by man. If someone comes along with a truth from the word they wont listen. The reason; they could §nd out they were wrong. It is pdde that keeps their mind closed. When the seed planter goes away, satan takes the seed right out of their mind. Know anyone like this?
The second one was those seeds that fell on stony ground. This is a person who hears the truth and with joy receives it; yet he has no root in himself, he only keeps the truth for a little while; because when anyone bothers him about Jesus or about the truth they have leamed, down the road they will be offended (stumble, trip up,enticed to sin, commit apostasy(to turn from truth).
These people are the ones who hear a truth, and they don't have anything else to build on and they stumble and fall. You know someone goes into a church they have a teaching "all you have to do is believe and you will go to heaven". Sounds great to them. They dont have to do anything just believe. But what happens is these people leave church and they go out into the world and the people of the world tell them they are crazy and ask them if they are a bible thumper now?. They say come on lets go get drunk. The persons feels stupid and goes out back into the world.
The third person is the one that received the seed among thorns. This is the person who hears the truth; but the cares of this world and deceitfulness of riches, choke the truth and they become unfrutiful.
This third person is the one who hears the word, stays in contact with the church and gets involved with church things concerning the flesh, raising money for the church, building a bigger church, starting a bus ministry, starting a sports ministry, starting a youth ministry, baking things for the church and so on.They don't go to church to be fed spiritually and to grow and to produce fruit for the Lord. They get choked by all the "church things".
The Fourth one is the person who receives the seed into good ground. This person not only hears the word, but also understands what the spidt is trying to teach them; so this person takes the truth and learns from it and tells other christians what they learned from the word (plants seeds). The other christians if the seeds fall on open ears learn from it and pass it on. Just like the fruit. You plant a seed in good ground. The seed grows and produces fruit and more seeds. Then those seeds are planted in the ground, more fruit. Do you see what the Father is teaching us? If so then be good ground and produce fruit for the Lord.
Read the other places in the word where it talks about ears to hear.
