John goes onto tell us what will happen if you are cheerful with them. 2 John 11 says for the one speaking a greeting, shares in his evil works.

if you are cheerful to them, then you are condoning what they are saying. Others see this and it could cause them to follow these people. Remember christians are ambassadors of Christ, people will watch what you do and say.

As you can see God doesn't play games. You have to do it his way and as it is written in his word, not someone else's words.

Jesus is saying tun away from these false teachings or when I come, what I say will be against you also. We know when Jesus comes, he will show the world all the lies of satan. He will also show the people who are following the false teachings, that they are following false teachings. They will think they were doing what God wanted. They will be ashamed and confused. They will want to hide from God.

HE THAT HATH AN EAR, LET HIM HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT SAITH TO THE CHURCHES; TO HIM THAT OVERCOMETH WILL EAT OF THE HIDDEN MANNA, AND WILL GIVE HIM A WHITE STONE, AND IN THE STONE A NEW NAME WRITTEN, WHICH NO MAN KNOWETH SAVING HE THAT RECEIVETH IT.

If you overcome ( the deception of Satan) you will eat of hidden manna (angels food) You will receive a white stone ( Jesus will give you a clean ticket, your sins are gone) and on the stone a new name (and written on the new ticket will be a new name, because you are married, brides take a new name.) Only those who take place in the wedding will know the new name.
