Mercury
By the glorious
Gods you are dignified,
As Mercury to bring the inner light;
Known as a young man - flying with speed,
To bring the message for those in need.
'But is it intellect or is it the heart -
Which causes man's actions to start?
It seems that our emotions fabricate
Daily functions, which we facilitate.'
Yet, to the Greeks as Hermes disguised
The light of knowledge you symbolized,
Which is received through contemplation,
To learn about you, we used exploration.
A sparkling planet closest to the sun,
As the nearest you are the one -
With an atmosphere so very thin,
Your dense body keeps nothing in.
For life you wouldn’t be a vacation,
With a most extreme temperature variation,
So we watch you from earth instead,
To admire you high above our head.
