| The Battle System Now the battle system is totally changed than the Final Fantasy series before. ATB system is now discarded and now a new Turn-Taking system is shown. And also other many things have been changed from other Final Fantasy series systems. The Battle Instead of depending the ATB bar, now you take turns with the enemies. Of course there¡¯s a way to get a turn faster or to get a turn slower by casting ¡°Haste¡± and ¡°Slow¡± magic. Also when you get a turn, the enemy won¡¯t wait you until you finish choosing commands that you wish to execute, instead they¡¯ll go and execute their action, even you didn¡¯t finish your action. They will attack no matter what you say or you stop taking action for your characters. Because of this, I assume that on the Configuration menu it will not have a choice for ATB, Wait, Normal, and Ignore, which did in FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX. And the amounts of the characters that you can use lessen back to 3 characters, instead of 4 in FFIX. However, a new system have made because of this feature. Now you can change one of your party in the battle a member of the party, which is not on the battle. Pressing R1 shows a menu of a list of characters that you may switch with. Of course the switched character also gets AP points after the battle. As the tradition of FF series, there are Limit skills, and they¡¯re called ¡°OverDrive¡± attack. It is used at certain point when the character reaches into a point when you can use. Every time the enemies damage you, the OverDrive gauge increases and when it reaches the limit, the OverDrive is activated. Also there¡¯s another new feature called ¡°OverKill¡±. This is when you defeat a monster but you damaged it more than the HP that it had. For example, an Ochu had 2000HP and you deteated by hitting ¡©3000HP, then ¡°OverKill¡± appears and you get more APs than normal. On the screen, instead of ATB bar, Limit bar and names of the characters on the bottom right corner, on the top right corner they will have a small window that shows the following-Turn Bar, Icons of the characters, Icons of the Enemies/Bosses, and the list of the turn. You can press R2 to look further list of the turns, which will be taken. The bar tracks when characters and monsters will act. Heroes are denoted with their portrait, monsters with "MON" and a letter representing which monster they are (not just "M", as previously reported), and summon creatures with an "S." When a character's symbol reaches the top of the bar, he or she gets to move. And the command menu will appear on the bottom left. When the OverDrive skill is triggered, an icon says ¡°OverDrive¡± will appear above the menu. The HP/MP bar is located on the bottom right with the character¡¯s names and the OverDrive gauge. Discard of ATB System: Rise of CTB The last 3 installments of Final Fantasies had the ATB (Active Time Battle) system. Now in FFX, this system is discarded and new Turn-Taking Battle system is featured in FFX. Since the ATB system is dropped, the ATB gauge is not shown anymore in the battles. Back to 3 party members in Battle Only 3 party members can fight the battle. This feature is back from Final Fantasy IX, which could be used 4 characters, maximum. This feature can be very useful since controlling 4 party members makes the player too busy in sometimes. New way to fight the Boss Since PlayStation2 supports massive power, the Boss Battles have changed. Like before, when we encountered a Boss, we move to a new battle screen, but now instead we fight where we encountered the Boss. We don¡¯t move to a new screen, the environment around you nothing changes. This called Seamless Battle. Changing party members in the Battle Now you can switch a party member who¡¯s not participating the battle. Pressing L1 or R1 during the battle opens a window that shows the party members who are not fighting the current battle. Choosing on of them substitutes with the current party member who¡¯s able to give command. |
