Face Back Spring Cover Box

This is one of the earlier watches made by the Benedict and Burnham MFG. Co. Only an estimated 1,000 of these were ever made and sold, and very few have survived. The original box pictured, although with some condition problems, is extremely rare. Note the six spokes in the dial. The hands are NOT original to this watch. This is the nickel plated version, which is the most common; however, a very few were made in other variations, such as gold plated, or three/four spoke dials. The paper Arabic dial on this is somewhat unusual. Note the pierced spring cover and the typical English pattern case. The crown is stamped with patent dates. The skeletonized movement is gilt, with no jewels. Although the watch is an 18’s, the movement is only about a 6’s. A very rare watch. Picture of box courtesy of 11ellie.
