The Revolution That Could Have Been 04-(26-27)-04 Explain me this obsession A mythical fascination With a revolution that could have been And it's failed generation Who bind now their children To far greater indignation Who have fostered in their own wake The mightiest expansion Of that which in their youthful vision Was a crippling alienation So what now is to become of us We who inherit your lost legacies We who must know so vividly Those evils which you did expose And poured the pot so they overflowed, We drown now in that flood Of your misguided actions Which having not the courage To withstand the tests of time Did so placidly succumb... To what fate now must we become? There is no peaceful means to change On our visible horizon It crashed and burned beneath the waves Of your silent referendum Yet as contemptible as it seems it should be There lurks a gratitude of utter perversity That the revolution may be ours The great cusp which shall define The world emerging from this time And age unknown in history Shall explode on our lifelines From the first grain of knowledge Falling upon my youthful brow With a subtle sense, I knew somehow The roots and stems could not sustain The flowers they were dreaming of This sense would grow, begin to explode In my sacred chambers I would concoct This vision of a dream to be That the revolution that could have been Shall boil now beneath our skin
