Chapter 3
Lance ran back to the bathroom between classes and ran wet hands over his face as he yelled to himself inside his head. This was going to be so hard, and he had been gone for so little time. How the hell was he supposed to know that there were going to be this many fans in his classes? They had only been through three periods, and already there were at least ten fans in each group of thirty. Did they all just flock toward the choir room when he got near the school, or something? He took in a deep breath, and then straightened his hair before leaving the bathroom, and almost knocking straight into another teacher.
“I’m sorry.”
“That’s alright.” The other teacher began to walk away from him, and he looked over to glance at her, but after he had just caught a glimpse of her face his head felt like it as going to burst. All of a sudden a violent flashback of girls hiding in his bushes hit him. They were giggling and there were flashes going off, and he clutched his head and leaned up against a wall. He stood that way for about two minutes and then opened his eyes, relieved that nobody had seen him. He then went back to class and tried to stay away from the girls as much as possible, but little did he know that in another classroom he was all they were talking about.
“Did you guys see the new choir teacher, Mr. Bowlin? He is like so hot!” A girl from his second period class was giggling along with her friends in their home economics class.
“I know. He is way better then all of the other choir directors that they’ve had.”
“Of course he is! The rest were old women!” They all giggled when their teacher sat down and spoke up on the subject, too. She often did that, and the girls had no problem with it. Miss Kent was only twenty-three, so it wasn’t like she was doing it out of a midlife crisis or anything like that.
“Do you like him too, Miss Kent?”
“Well, he is pretty hot.” They all giggled until Celestine joined the conversation with a serious tone to her voice.
“Yeah, but this morning he was like freaking out or something.”
“What do you mean?”
“He was grabbing his head like he had a really bad headache or something, and he looked all dizzy and stuff. He almost passed out right in the middle of first period.”
“Are you serious?” One girl asked kind of confused, but then she was backed up by Miss Kent.
“I saw him grabbing his head like that just twenty minutes ago in the teacher’s lounge, too. He must have bad migraines or something, but that doesn’t make him any less hot!” They all giggled some more, and didn’t get any real work done for the entire hour.
After school that day, Lance sat at his desk trying to decide what he was going to do. He couldn’t kill them all, and suddenly his original plan wasn’t making much sense. Had he really planned on killing all of their fans? There were millions of them around the world! He couldn’t possibly do that, but he had to avenge his friends’ deaths somehow, and those four girls had simply not been enough. When he was in the middle of a thought, Miss Kent, along with a few students of his walked into the room and she put her hand on his shoulder, causing him to jump and look at her. Then a bright light flooded his mind, and his head pounded with fury. He grabbed it, and tried to contain the intense pain flowing through his brain as another flashback of girls in his bushes hit him. He was pulled out of it though when he felt arms wrapped around him, and heard a sweet voice whispering into his ear.
“It’s alright. Just calm down.” He sat down on the floor beside his desk and began breathing heavily with his eyes still shut tight. When he had finally calmed down he opened his eyes and looked up to the people in his room. What were they doing here?
“Migraines?” he nodded in agreement, and got back up to sit at his desk.
“They come and go. You know.” He muttered the statement under his breath, knowing what a bad liar he was. He had to cover it up though, because if they found out what was going on then it would be insisted that he go to a doctor, and then everything would be found out, and he could not let that happen. He would never go back to the asylum, not if his life depended on it. That place was a living hell for anybody that was forced to stay there, and he was going to have to stay there until he died if they caught him. Nobody would ever understand, because they had no idea what it was like to be in his situation. Oh yeah, some of the people told him that they did, but they were lying either to him or to themselves; nobody knew his pain. When Lance noticed that they were all staring at him, and asked a curt question.
“What do you want?”
“We were just wondering if you were okay. You seem to be having a lot of severe migraines lately, and we thought that maybe you should go to the doctor.” He rolled his eyes at them, but felt fear on the inside.
“I’m fine. I don’t need a doctor.” He nervously answered them, and then went back to looking at some papers, but then lifted his head back up when they didn’t leave.
“What?”
“We really think that you should see a doctor.” He sighed and looked Miss Kent straight in the face.
“What is your name?”
“Rachel Kent.”
“Well, Ms. Kent, I didn’t want to have to say this, but I can’t go to the doctor. I have no health insurance.
“Oh. I’m so sorry to hear that.” Score! Now they had to leave him alone if they thought that he really had wanted to go.
“Now, I really have to work, so could you all please leave.”
“Oh, of course.” All of the girls left the room, and Lance sighed with relief to himself. He had almost gotten caught there. He got back to work on his plans, but every few minutes his mind kept drifting back to Miss Kent. He had seen her somewhere before, but where?
