The Waterloo WildCats and the Redondo Beach Mohicans
played to a 1-1 tie last night at the Jungle Dome in
Waterloo. The game was the second tie in as many
meetings between the two teams, this one dominated by
goaltenders Jussi Markkanen and Jean-Sebastian Gigure,
who combined to stop 60 shots in the 65 minute game.
For Markkanen, it was his first CHL start, and he
looked impressive stopping all but 1 of the 29 shots
he faced, including 5 in the overtime period, earning
him the second star of the game. Gigure stopped 32
WildCat shots en route to the first star selection.
Jasoslav Spacek scored the lone goal for the WildCats
on the power-play mid-way through the second period,
but the lead didn’t last for long as Brad Ference
scored a little over 4 minutes later to even things
up.
Waterloo will host the Nemesis tonight at the Jungle
Dome. The Cats are looking to keep a 6 game unbeaten
streak alive as they take on the defending CHL Cup
champions for the second time in 3 games.
