One Up Bridge to Bridge to Bridge - 3rd May, 1998
118 mph One up Bridge
Winner was The Sting towing Daniel Auld (About 38mins). But from the start
it was God's Gift towing Stephen
Robertson who was knocking 118mph and leading the race. It was reported to
have been a
phenomenal race as The Sting driven by the quiet Ken Broughton challenged
God's Gift. But from
Wiseman's Ferry to Sackville, it was Stephen Robertson who dominated.
Sadly for the lead team, the good times ended at God's Gift pulled out
around the Sackville area with
no power. Daniel Auld was left to cruise to victory.
Robbo is believed to have reached Sackville in an amazing 22 minutes and
even Ken Broughton was
amazed by the speed that both Stephen & Daniel were racing at. Ken was
heard to say that he's
never been so fast in a boat and was on times, afraid for these two
incredible skiers.
But Auld & Robbo were fine and are allegedly still on a high after
some extreme speeds. It seems
that Steve is going from strength to strength with a string of victories
since his Silver medal at the
Worlds. Expected to arrive on the banks of the Viersel canal in a few
weeks, it'll be good to see some
top Aussie Action at the Diamond Race.
