11/10/02-Can you believe my 3rd semester at college will be over in less than a month. I have three and a half weeks of classes left and then finals week. All in all I should be out of here by December 13th. My last two finals are on that day in the morning and early afternoon, so short of any major snow storms (knock on wood) I should be heading for home after the second one is over. It will be nice to get home, although my break is shorter than last year (we have to come back a week before Martin Luther King day this year). You can already tell that the semester is starting to wind down. I have two more tests coming up in a week or so and then all I’ll have is finals. In another “class” the big squeeze is coming on for me to be able to implement a final part of a project I’ve been working on with a teacher (and it’s not really my fault that things have been delayed this long, the professor is just really busy and we’ve had a hard time arranging to meet with a teacher from a local elementary school). You know, as I’ve been writing this I think I’ve figured out some of the reason I haven’t been updating the page as much as last year. In addition to the things I’ve already mentioned, this year I have a car so I often go out on Friday nights (just to do a little shopping or walk around the mall even for a hour or so) to relax a little. Last year the time when I did most of my updating was Friday nights when I didn’t have anything to do, so this might explain why this web site has been so neglected. Getting back to school related news, all of my classes have been going well. Nothing too difficult or challenging. I am nearing completion on one of the research projects I have been working on dealing with Artificial Intelligents and vocabulary acquisition for computers. All I have left to do is run the program and see what definition the computer comes up with based on the information of the passage it has been given. In the last week or so I have been inducted into two honor societies on campus. One was Phi Eta Sigma, a freshman honors society, and the other was Golden Key, a general upperclassman honor society. It might seem that I was inducted into both a freshmen and an upperclassmen honor society in the same semester, but on of them was looking at the fact that I “just” completed my first year at UB and the other was looking at the number of credit hours I’ve taken (which makes me look like a Senior). That’s it for now, hopefully I’ll get to updating before I go home for Christmas break. |
