Charisma Carpenter was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 23, 1970. Since a young child Charisma knew that she wanted to be involved in the performing arts. She was even studying classical ballet at 5 years old. At 15 her parents decided to move to Mexico, and she decided to make the hour long commute to The School of Creative and Performing Arts in San Diego. After high school she took a tour of Europe, and eventually returned to San Deigo. Like many beging actresses she took several odd jobs to support herself including an aerobics instructor, a video store clerk, and in 1991 she was even a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers. She eventually moved to Los Angeles and took up a job along Sunset Blvd. as...you guessed it - a waitress! But she actually wasn't trying to become an actress at this point, she was actually trying to save enough money to become a teacher.
Now this is where her life took a Hollywood fantasy turn, a commercial agent saw her at work one day and gave her a list of acting schools he thought she should check out. She finally settled on Playhouse West and soon realized that acting was her passion. During the 18 months at the school Charisma studied hard, and worked as many commercials as she could get. She finally landed a guest role on Baywatch. Soon after she landed a starring role on the short lived Aaron Spelling drama Malibu Shores (which I actually watched a few eps of), which also happened to star Keri Russel. After a few more guest apperances on Pacific Blue and Boy Meets World, she finally got her big break. Her agent sent her to audition for the role of Buffy in the new WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After watching her audition, the producers asked her to try out for the role of Cordelia, and the part was instantly hers. Three years later she jumped at the chance to move her character over to the Angel spinoff and has been there ever since.
