Here's what we've been up to until then. Thanks again for visiting. Waydar -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 07/21/00 Today finds us ready to leave the Downtown RV Park at Watson Lake. This is a good park because it has 7 free car/rv wash bays. Because of the roads after leaving here, we decided not to avail ourselves of this...there are many miles of dirt/gravel/dusty trails between Watson Lake and Fort Nelson. We saw black bears, deer, stone sheep, and caribou on the way South. As I said before...there was many miles of throat choking dust as we made our way toward the US Border. We drove to the Husky 5th Wheel Truck Stop and CG, the place we stayed on our trip going North. Full hook ups are $26/night...not a bad place. 07/22/00 As we pull out to the road, we know there are 35 miles of dusty dirt/gravel roads between us and Dawson Creek. And it was DUSTY. It was so bad, we had a pilot car guide us along. Finally made it on to a hard surface, and that was a relief...we saw more animals as we drove. We stopped at Northern Lights RV Park in Dawson Creek....again. Same place we had been earlier....only this time no mud.!! 07/23/00 With Sunday being a Nascar Race Day...and not being close enought to use the In-Motion receiver, we stayed there and used the portable dish to watch our favorites do battle on the track. and...unwind a little. 07/24/00 The sun is shining brightly as we head South this morning. That's something new for us, as many days have been cloudy and rainy. Not many animal sightings as we make our way to Edmonton Alberta. We find Glowing Embers RV Park...its a Good Sam CG. They assign us a site, right in the middle of a Prevost Rally.....but hey, I'm not intimidated one little bit. We set up and enjoyed a juicy steak cooked on the grill....right in their back yard. 07/25/00 We left Glowing Embers and made our way to the Esso Station in Spruce Grove to fuel up. The owners are interested in our rig and our travels...we talk and they tell us we are living their dream. We're on the road once again, on our way to the next stop...Bridgeview RV Resort at Lethbridge AB....not to far from our border. Bridgeview is a member park, and we use our RPI...(Resort Parks Int.) $7.50/CN...as I register, I'm told its our lucky day....yup, its Christmas in July. Between 6-9 PM, a Christmas Dinner is being served in the on-site restuarant. Turkey and dressing, and all that goes with it...for only $9.95/CN. We decided to give it a try, and it was deee-lish..us!! 07/26/00 We're ready to roll, when I discover a flat tire on the Jeep....dang!! Just what I was looking for, huh? I call Pro assist from Progressive Insurance people...they ask were we in a dangerous place, I told them no, we were in a campground. Told me to look for the truck in 20 minutes. Well, only took 10 minutes for them to arrive. The spare was installed in no time, and I tried to sign the paperwork. Not necessary I'm told. They already had their money. The driver told me, he wished all providers were as good as Progressive. All the miles we've driven, this was my first experience using my ERS. I have to say, its was all I had been told by my agent. I find a station to fix my flat, as I don't want to start out without a spare. We find a large nail in the tread. Flat fixed and we're on the road toward the border. Our border. As I pull into the Customs Inspection Station, folks... I'm not looking forward to it at all. The Inspector comes out, ask me a few questions, and tells me to have a good day. He didn't ask about pets, and I didn't tell him about the Birdy Boys. I had learned..if they don't ask, don't tell. We all did high fives as we rolled into the good ole USA. It was good to be back. We stop for the night at the Wal-Mart parking lot, Helena MT. The air is heavy with smoke, and as soon as we turn on the TV, the Sheriff tells the folks on the Eastside of town to evacuate because of the fires. Well, our parking place is on that side of town. We could see the flames from our windows, but the wind was behind us and maybe they would let us stay the night. Yup....still there when daylight came. 07/27/00 We had spent the night on the Wal-Mart lot, so the chairs, grill, and awning was still packed away, it didn't take long to move out. We headed to the KOA at Dillon MT. A nice drive down, as we passed through many canyons, between the mountains, and along side the many rivers that flow besides the road and cross under it. We pay for a week at the Dillon KOA, and set up house. Its very warm and we're at 5500 feet altitude. The temps near the 100's during the day, and drops to the 40's when the sun goes down. This area is known for its fly fishing....the Beaverhead River is a Trout fisherman's dream....I went fishing several times...its called fishing because if you were to catch anything, it would be called catching. !! With all the laws here, you need a lawyer with you to know if you can keep it or have to release back in the water. Montana Fishing Regulations cover 101 pages. If you're like me, and don't "catch" anything, no problem. To fish in Montana, one needs two licenses: A Conservation License and a Fishing License. You have to have the Conservation License before you are able to purchase a Fishing License. The CL is $5.00 and FL is $5/day or $45 season. That cost is for a non-resident, like me. We stayed for the week...and the smoke got worse every day. It was really hard to breath...we had decided to drive on to Teton National Park for a few days fishing and had reservations....but with all the fires and smoke, we cancelled and headed East to escape the discomfort. 08/03/00 We drive to Billings MT and Metro KOA. This is the first KOA that was built in the KOA chain. Its a beautiful park, built on the bank of the Yellowstone River. It would be toward the top of our favorite parks list. A nice place. 08/04/00 We visit Hardin MT, about 40 miles East of Billings. From there we drive another 45 miles to the Yellowtail Dam. A wonderful view of the lake (its 70 miles long) the Big Horn River, and the surrounding countryside. 08/05/00 Today finds us leaving Montana and heading to South Dakota....more on South Dakota as it happens. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 08/06/00 We pulled out of Metro KOA at Billings MT. on Sat morning..BTW..that was the first KOA ever built....we headed East on I-90. This week and next, the countryside is alive with motocycles of every description. The Sturgis 2000 60th Annual Rally started the 4th, and goes till the 12th. As soon as we turned on to I-90, bikers started passing us till we arrived in Sturgis. There are thousands of 'em everywhere. Not a square inch of land that doesn't have a tent, or RV of some kind, parked on it. People are camped all the way to Rapid City on both sides of the highway. We've never seen anything to compare with it, except at one goat roping awhile back. We met motor homes that were older then any I've seen in museum's, and they were just a gettin'it. All loaded like hay wagons....and on the other end....brand new Prevosts and Wanderlodges, with trailers painted to match...either in Sturgis, or going there. Several bikes off the side being repaired and revived. Both sides of I-90 is just one campground after another. There's the Hog Heaven CG, and the Buffalo Chip CG....and don't miss the Don't Have A Name CG. You can visit the Side Hack Saloon, or the Full Throttle Saloon, or dozen's more around the area..... As we left Rapid City, there's road construction...down to one lane for traffic going West, a biker was down and laying on his back in the ditch....traffic was backed up about 5 miles and Police and Meds were having a bad time trying to reach the area. We had a solid string of bikes, RV's and trailers, all the way to Belvidere SD. A distance of 133 miles. We pulled into the KOA and got a spot...not any to soon I might add. Because soon, the CG was full of bikes, bikers, RV's, and trailers of all kinds. Most people think of bikers as beer drinking rowdy's and loud mouths...not so in this case. Everyone was very quite and polite. This KOA has a restuarant on site, and the folks took advantage of it and enjoyed great food... We would have joined them, but already had steaks thawed out for supper....that's dinner to all y'all not from Texas. Its now 1:45 PM Sun afternoon, as I look at I-90, a steady flow of motorcycles are heading to Sturgis.....will it ever end?? Folks around here say, there's hundreds of thousands of bikers in for the Rally...and I sure won't dispute it, now that I've seen it with my own eyes. BTW...for the fist time in several days, we're out of the smoke from the fires......and the air smells good. So long for now! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: SEGT From: "Waydar" Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 20:44:52 -0500 Hi All Y'all..... We left Yankton SD about noon and are sitting at Wal*Mart in Salina KS on our way to Fort Worth. Right now our plans are to be in Seveirville for another SEGT...to see our long time friends and meet new ones...this rally is so much fun, it hard to not go.... Hope to see a big group there. If you've never been, this would be a good time to go and start enjoying the good times. On the road having a ball. Y'all be safe and have fun. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: What we did today! From: "Waydar" Date: Sat, 26 Aug 2000 19:16:01 -0700 Hi All Y'all.... Mz Sherry, the Birdy Boys, and me....have all arrived back in Fort Worth. We left Salina KS this morning, and headed south. Stopped at Camping World at Denton TX and picked up some 'can't do withouts' and then pulled into the Cracker Barrel for a good lunch. From there, a quick trip to the park. We're back at our favorite campground...Cowtown RV Park just West of FW. For the first time in a while, I have a phone connection in the coach...no more cell phone for a few days. But hey....love the cell phone, can't say anything bad, it worked great on our trip. Well, everywhere except through parts of Canada and the Yukon. This CG have the instant on phones at the sites...cost is $2/day...I will gladly pay that for instant phone. When we were staying in Rochester, I had a phone. Had to call US West, fill out application, make an appointment and then be at the site 10 days later when the truck showed up. Also had to put up a deposit. That's about standard for any phone company. We'll be here in FW till the 5th of Sept. We'll pick Sherry's dad, Sammy up...(many of you know him) and head out to Sevierville TN for the SEGT. After we leave TN, we're on our way to Dubuque IA to get our couch replaced. Then we turn toward Florida for the rest of the winter and into next year. More as it happens...stay tuned.
