A Brief Pause in an Apple Orchard

© 2004 Steven L. Campbell

Sunbeams lick away dewdrops soaking in shaded greenery of an apple orchard in small acreage upon a hilly clearing where sunny morning shines golden on chalky-pink blossoms, making me pause and prolong my hike.

I examine pale and dark green oval leaves nodding jaggedly from a breeze dashing across craggy, crabby branches.

Wasps complain from gray papery hives swaying above me, and a hummingbird pauses and peeks inside a blossom.

Perhaps she smells jellies, pies and cider.

I do.
