DESERT ROSE

“Desert Rose” is another poem I wrote for my little girl. My life had become dull with numerous problems that I was tired of dealing with. The one thing that I was looking forward to was going to Jordan on an archaeology dig with a local university. Then came September 11, 2001 when the planes crashed into the towers, Pentagon and into Pennsylvania soil. Jordan’s borders (as well as all Middle East countries) closed their borders to Americans because of the safety issue. So I stayed home to deal with my problems. I was two months along when I realized why I was sick and tired so often. I spent hours figuring out how to deal with all the changes yet I welcomed them. This new life was a change God had chosen to bless me with and I was determined to be thankful. The whole situation brought me a new outlook on life and my future. Jordan Rose has become the rose in the desert of my life.
The mist of the morning
Had gone from my life.
It had become
A desert full of strife.
There were plans for the future
To travel abroad;
To further my education
By treading Jordan’s sod.
Everything has changed
Since those planes crashed.
Jordan’s border closed
My hopes are now dashed.
Home is where I’ve been
To deal with marriage woes;
Then came the news
Soon there will be buttons & bows.
Several months of waiting
Has brought a special gift;
A bouncing baby girl
To help heal the rift.
A fresh, clean, living water
Now courses through my veins.
The watering of my soul
Is because my God reigns.
