A LETTER TO MITTENS

Dear Mittens,
It has been so long since I’ve been able to hold you and stroke your soft fur. I know you have been in good hands with Lorraine and Linda. I have paid my debt to society (that means I’m no longer in jail) and I am now living in an apartment. I’ve tried to arrange for you to come live with me, but my new landlord doesn’t allow pets. I tried to explain that you are so much more than an ordinary pet, but he wouldn’t hear of it.
All in all, it sounds as if you are in capable hands, and you have everyone whipped into shape, so I feel better about having you stay there. Lorraine and Linda love you very much, dear Mittens, as do I, but it is better if you are there, in a more stable setting.
I do hope that you’ve found neutral ground with the dog, Brigette. You always were one to be testy with inferior species!
I hope there will be no more trying to further your career with the ballet (forget the dreaded tutu and ballet shoes!) and the other costumes that were such an embarrassment to you.
Lorraine has assured me that I can visit you, so this is less painful. I’ll leave you in their capable hands, and leave you with the assurance that you are in my thoughts, always. You have.....
All my love,
Kenny
Dear Kenny,
I was very sad to learn that we will not be living together again. Sigh. I will always love you and remember the wonderful times we had.
It is certainly very different living with these two women. I miss your gentle masculine touch. I look forward to your visits.
You are right that I have the entire household whipped into shape. Lorraine thinks she is the boss here but Linda and “the boss” BOTH know that I am the. real queen of this domain. (Except when they go on one of their costume binges.)
I have given you my devotion for many years and I will miss our closeness but these gals have shown me a different style of life and I am adapting quite well.
Even Brigette the black lab shows me a certain amount of respect.
Kenny, we have had a wonderful relationship and I will love you and think fondly of you forever. Thank you for placing me in such a loving family. I shall NEVER forget your love and kindness.
Your loving cat who will always miss you,
Mittens
