With the support of our School Council, we have developed the following plan: Recognizing and Teaching Respect Focus on three areas: People/Self, Property, Environment Respecting yourself and others Clean and attractive classrooms and hallways Yard clean-up and awareness of the benefits of a litterless lunch. Each classroom will have a teacher-developed recognition system this year. Outside the homeroom, all staff can recognize students who demonstrate respectful behaviour with yellow SMILE cards. Students will receive credit for these in their homeroom program. Character Matters! curriculum materials, provided by the Board, will be used as teaching resources. Guest speakers will inspire and motivate our students throughout the year. Teaching Character through a House System Focus on Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Optimism. Each House will include students from Grades 1 – 8. Activities will occur one day per month beginning in October. Activities will build cooperation to accomplish a task or complete an activity. Spirit Days will be incorporated into the House system. Participation points will be earned by each House throughout the year. Staff members and School Council will work together to organize and prepare these events. |
