Dear Parents,

Our school-wide focus this year is building the character of our students. In our classroom I hope to have come up with a system that not only develops recognition of students demonstrating good character in the class, but also outside the boundaries of our school.

I believe that someone with good character, is someone who makes the right choices when no one is watching. Character does not stop in the classroom. With my system, students may be recognized by anyone, both inside and outside of the school community.

A recommendation box will be displayed in our class. Any student may make an anonymous recommendation of another student, who they feel has demonstrated one of the
ten character matters attributes. Also, you may wish to send a recommendation of your own, if you feel that your child has demonstrated good character. In fact, if your neighbour sees your child doing something that warrants recognition, I will accept that too.

All recommendations will receive a point from one kilometre to one hundred kilometres. The objective is for each student to accumulate enough kilometres to be able to "run" across Canada. I feel that Terry Fox's selfless behaviour is a great role model for all of us. This "run" across Canada will be a reminder that we need to be better to one another, as well as ourselves.

I look forward to your participation in this year long activity.
