TASK OVERVIEW
An expository writing is meant to inform the reader.
INSTRUCTIONS
Expository Writing
1. Write the Beginning
Your first paragraph should tell what your report is about and hook the readers? interest. This sample uses humour to hook his
readers:
If you knew what they ate, you would be glad that hawks aren?t in charge of school lunches!
Here are some other ways to hook readers:
Did you know that some hawks live as long as 30 years?
Share an interesting story:
My dad once saw a hawk eat a snake?.
2. Write the Middle
*    Write the main part of your report. The answers to each of your questions belong together in the same paragraph. For example, all
of the information about what hawks eat is in the second paragraph.
3. Write the Ending
Make your ending strong. Tell what you have learned or how you feel about your topic. For example, the last paragraph could be
written in this way:
Hawks are amazing! They are so graceful as high divers and as fast as some airplanes. My dad is glad I?ve learned more about hawks.
So am I.
