Continue with Powerpoint on Imperialism.

Students will take notes on powerpoint using their notes handout and ask questions as necessary.

  • Objectives

    The students will:

  • 1). continue with Imperialism powerpoint.
  • 2). Explain where U.S. territories are located and describe howeach was acquired.
  • 3). Discuss issues related to the U.S. control of territories.
  • 4). Identify people such as Kamahamaha, Liliokalahni, Frederick Jackson Turner, Admiral Mahan, Aguinaldo, etc.

  • 5). Define terms such as Imperialism, territory, annex, protectorate, Platt Amendment, Roosevelt Corrollary, etc.

  • Materials: Powerpoint-Imperialism and Expansion, outline notes, notebooks, Ch 10 activities packet.

    PROCEDURES

    Continue with powerpoint notes. Students will take notes on Imperialism ppt. If any time is left, students may work on their packet. Class will listen quietly, take notes and ask questions as needed.

    Homework: Do vocabulary on for Activity #1.
    Read:Ch 10.
    Remember to write a journal entry

    CONTENT

    Continue with Imperialism PPT. Students will take notes on their outline notes.

    With any remaining time, continue to work on Activities packet on Imperialism.

  • 3). Listen attentively, take notes and ask questions where appropriate.
  • 4). Work on questions using activities packet in class, if time.

    CONTENT

    CURRENT EVENTS

    Discuss current events for the past week in class. All students should participate, by introducing an event, or contributing to one already presented for discussion. Events may involve international, national, state, local, or school news. Events should be "current"..ie. have happened recently.

    Objectives:

    The students will:

  • 1). discuss current events in class
  • 2). read a newspaper in class to gain information about local, state, national, and international occurrances.

  • PROCEDURES
    Discuss current events from past week. Hand out newspapers, and do SSR. At end of class, fold papers neatly, pick up and return to stack on shelf.

    Friday

    Tests

    Tests are usually scantron type tests. That is, Multiple Choice, True/False, Matching, and/or Short Answer.
    All "make up" tests are essay type. Make up day is assigned by the administration, unless other arrangements are made. All tests MUST be made up NO LATER than 2 weeks prior to the end of the grading period.

    Notebooks

    Notebooks are required for this class and must be brought to class EVERY day. A grade is given each 9 weeks for the notebook. Be sure yours is up-to-date and all work is in it. Notebook checks are unannounced, so be sure you have yours with you EACH day for class. No locker visits are permitted to go get it.

    Homework

    LATE HOMEWORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. If you are legally absent from school, for each day of school that you miss, you will have that same number of days to make up homework. For example, if you are absent from school for 3 days, homework must be turned in NO LATER than 3 days AFTER the due date.

    All homework MUST have a heading: your first name and your last name, the name of the class, and period, and the date.
