Healing The Culture

The Four Levels of Happiness

Level 1 Physical Pleasure and Possession
Enjoying food, sports, physical touch, sunsets, buying cars, new outfits, cruises, beautiful music, smelling roses, jewelry. Requires little, if any, skill
    Happiness doesn't last very long.
Living "only" for Level 1 leads to boredom, restlessness, low self-esteem, and feeling like we are living beneath ourselves.

Level 2 Ego Gratification
Winning a competition, getting good grades, excelling I sports, being popular, climbing the corporate ladder
    Requires physical and mental skill
    Happiness is longer lasting
Living "only" for Level 2 leads to pride, fear, possible anger, contempt, aggression, isolation, resentment, jealousy, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, self doubt and suspicion.

Level 3 Love and Contribution
Volunteering for a charity, taking care of a grandparent, having a loving relationship, having children, doing random acts of kindness
    Requires self-sacrifice
    Happiness is very long-lasting
Living "only" for Level 3 leads to disappointment and frustration. The imperfections of other people and the world can cause cynicism (feeling nothing is good, people are liars, nothing works for me, etc.)

Level 4 Faith in God
Trusting in God and believing He can love and forgive me, no matter what I have done. Letting Him direct my life and give me my true fulfillment.
    Requires self-surrender (surrendering my will to God's)
The KEY to True Happiness is making Level 4 the goal of my life, and enjoying the other levels in appropriate ways.
