|For the past several months, the Blue Room (Notre Dame & Home Street) has been fighting to get a liquor license.
The applicants were able to get the support of a lawyer and even our city councillor, Harvey Smith - who happens to be a member there.
On the other hand were over 250 residents who signed a petition, and Constable Dave Schmidt who came faithfully to many meetings to share information about violations of by-laws and concerns of the community. Thanks Dave, Brian & Hugh!
On September 28th the Liquor Control Commission supported the community and police concerns by refusing to give the Blue Room a liquor license.
Keep an eye on the Blue Room. The owner has actually put some good quality work into the apartments above the "club." If the owner uses the building for something better for the community, let's be sure to support him!
|The Zoning, Businesses Licensing, and Liquor Licensing process provides an important opportunity for the community to protect itself and voice concerns before the problems associated with certain businesses get entrenched even further by city or provincial approval.
For community it is true that "an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure!"
