Marshal: Fighter practice resumes this week at the Armory on Thursday's from 6 to 8PM. We have the Armory through April. Come out and fight or just visit.

Master of Swords: Back in August we were having a discussion about different kind of tournaments. Well it is once again time for this. We need a tournament format for Candalmas, All Fools and June Fair. For Candalmas I was going to run a Round Robin. If anyone as any other ideas please post them and include a format of how the tournament is run. I want to run the tournaments that you want to see.

June Fair Ideas are as follows: Snowball- Two large teams meet in first round members of the losing team are eliminated. The victorious team is splint in two this goes on until only one man is left.

Progressive melee Bearpit Swiss-style tournament

Equestrian Officer: Hi! I'm back.

Constable: Well, another year has come to a close, and a new one is just beginning. First, allow me to thank all those who have been supportive of this office this past year. Your numbers are too great to thank each individually, so I send out a huge "THANK YOU and HUZZAH" to all of you. Now, being this is a new year, a couple of changes and requests are being brought to your attention. First, I am taking the initiative and locally changing the title of "Constable In Charge" to "Event Deputy". The duties don't change, but the title appears less intimidating. Second, I am looking for people to avail themselves to fill this "Event Deputy" position at several events. I will be at most events, however it would be nice to have a second person available so that early burn out doesn't occur. Please check the FLAMES for dates, and contact me privately in advance. Finally, a last bit of VERY important business: Per Kingdom Law, and emphasized recently by the Kingdom Seneschal, Regional Seneschal, and Baronial Seneschal, the following notice is given: THE CONSUMPTION OR POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL BY MINORS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! IF A MINOR IS FOUND IN VIOLATION, MODERN AUTHORITIES WILL BE NOTIFIED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!! (If there are any questions, see me privately). I hope that everyone takes this last bit to heart, and informs our minors of the legal consequences of their actions.

Minister of Arts and Sciences: I have had several requests for a workshop on research and documentation. Therefore, I am working on a Saturday workshop for February. If you let me know what other subjects about which you would like to learn, I will arrange for a similar weekend workshop.

Chronicler: A reminder, if there needs to be a change or correction made, please let me know exactly what needs to be corrected and what it should say. I still hope to have the Flames in the mail the Thursday of the business meeting, you can help by electronically posting reports and copy to me. I have started gleaning info from the Internet, a lot of good information is passed on there and not everyone has access to the net.

Remember new members can get 2 free issues, encourage your friends to subscribe to the Flames, it is your newsletter!

Pied Piper: Greetings to the populace of Dragon's Laire, I hope that everyone had a Happy holiday Season. I attended Yule Feast as an Assistant Autocrat. There was no Pied Piper on Site. There were only seven Children in attendance. The children seemed to be able to find their own fun without anyone getting into to much trouble, or getting hurt. I will be attending 12th night. I hope to see a lot of you there. I will be helping out the Rivers Region Pied Piper at times as well as helping with the royal Guard, under Dracus Black Rogue. Remember those of you going to 12th night to be safe. Take Care.

Gamesmaster: The December Games Night had a wonderful turnout. I enjoy being surrounded by beautiful women who like playing games. We had a lot of fun playing poch. Because my real estate class was cancelled Games Nights will continue to be on the second Monday of each month January through March at 6:30 PM. The next Games Night will be on Monday January 11. Please come have fun.

GUILDS

Culinary Guild/Spiritmakers:

Costumer Guild: I (along with the Roving Players) have been approached by Spectrum school to do costumes for their production of Macbeth this spring. As this is the first year for the drama program at this school, they have no budget. The theater does not have enough early period clothing to costume the show. I have also been approached by Gold Key to turn fabric into clothing items. Thus to make both parties jump with joy, on Sat, March 27, 10 am to dark, I will be hosting a sewing party at my house. Any one willing to help sew, donate fabric, trim or other items, or help out in any way (research info greatly appreciated) please call me at 360-297-4751. Jan meeting at Fighter Practice Jan 21, 7pm.

Dance Guild: No Report

Bardic Guild: Work schedules and modern commitments have left me shirking my bardic duties lately. I can and will begin attending fighter practice regularly again, however. and would love to talk to anyone about anything Bardic. Lately I've been brushing up on period theater.

PLEASE remember that it is NOT too early to begin thinking about June Faire. The bardic fire last year lasted until 5:00am, and this year we plan to have two stages (as well as miscellaneous along-the-street

entertainment) for the event.

Thingmakers Guild: Next meeting Jan. 17th 2PM at Lady Louise's House.

Combat Engineers Guild: Status quo. Still meeting Thursdays at the Armory at fighter practice.

Seneschal: Officers, Feb. 1 was the day you sent in your quarterly reports. Also, I and the Viceroy's get a copy. Things seem to be very quiet and hopefully, everyone or at least most of us are getting garb and items ready for the Tourney Season. I know for sure, I'm tired of this cold and rain and can hardly wait for Spring. Come join the fun to be held at Candalmas and the Regional Feast.

Golden Dragon Pursuivant: A slight repeat of last month's report, as it did not make it into the Flames due to tech. difficulties. I have been playing around with some unusual names for our not-acceptable "Albion Light". Every branch has either orders with British or, at best, Celtic names. I found very few in other languages (French and Latin). So, here are a few in as many languages as I could come up with. I am also still working on a few other languages. For good Ol' English, some non-conflicting possibilities include: (all the following preceded by "Order of the..) Light of Dragon's Laire Guiding Light (of Dragon's

Laire?) Golden Light Dragon's Light Dragon's Brand Dragon's Torch Dragon's Ember Any of the above constructed as Golden Dragon's xxxxxxx Dragon's Blaze is already registered. For Latin (VERY period!) we could have Lux Draconis (Dragon's Light) or other similar. For French: Lumiere d'Or: For Spanish: la Luz de Oro For Italian: Luce Dorata (Golden light) Luce d'Oro (Light of Gold) Luce del Drago (Dragon's Light) Luce del Drago d'Oro (Golden Dragon's Light) Torcia del Drago (Dragon's Torch). I will be bringing along a folder with the choices and any suggestions made to all mtgs/events, so that you may look and comment on all. This will continue until the June meeting, when I would like to have a final tally of votes. Coming soon (probably March, possibly late February) we will be holding a Silk painting class to get ready for banner and costume painting. We will be having Lady Adrienne the Fierce as a guest teacher. She is fantastic!! Don't forget the banner contest for June Faire. For more info, please call (360) 613-0154, or check the June Faire WEB site, or talk to me! Info on the class will be disseminated ASAP in every possible way. If you have no e-mail and want to be notified, please let me know.

Golden Dragon Pursuivant: It was my great pleasure to herald the Court of HRM Laurellen and Viceroy Baron Don Artimis at Candlemas, and to be there to share in the joy of recognizing many gentles for their hard work and efforts in making our Kingdom all the better and stronger. Here are their names, so that you may congratulate them next time you see them:

Robert Ros of Misty Haven - Dragon's Claw - (Children's Service)

Conrad Ros of Misty Haven - Dragon's Claw

Carolina de Poliana - Snapdragon (adult Service Award)

Saneen van Ecke - Snapdragon

Serene Eames - Goutte de Sangue (Kingdom Service Award, carrying a Grant of Arms - from now on she is HL Serene)

Allaura of Soundstream - Award of Arms (Service Award, carries title Lord or Lady)

Soleis of Soundstream - Award of arms

Red Angus of Soundstream - Award of Arms

HUZZAH!! May we all follow in their footsteps and enhance our Barony's and Kingdom's reputation!

I also heralded TRMs Court at Western Regional Feast. Though many awards were given out, none were from our Barony. It was still a pleasure to do it, though! HRM the Queen presented the Minstrels of Soundstream with their Award of Arms scrolls and HL Serene Eames with her Goutte scroll.

They were very beautiful, crafted by Duchess Lao, and fed-exed that very morning specifically for the event! Except for a few glitches, Court went pretty smoothly, and merriment was predominant at all times, led by HRM Aveloc and HRM Laurellen. I wish to thank THL Natasha Orionova and THL Catryn ferch Dafydd for their assistance and readily shared knowledge!

Marshal: ATTENDANCE: As many as 27, as little as 10, with an average of 16. Heavys:1, Rapier 2-3, Marshals 5

Equestrian Officer: Office open

Constable: February saw two events - Candalmas and Western Regional Feaste. HL Caitlin Spenser and members of the Spenser-Longfellow Trading Company took care of Candalmas, while HL Eric de Dragonslaire and Baroness Sancia handled the Regional Feaste. Approximately 130 people attended Candalmas and about 140 attended Western Regional Feaste. No incidents were reported. Thanks to all who helped out. See you at many upcoming events.

Minister of Arts and Sciences: H.L. Linnett Kestrel, the kingdom A7S Champion, will be offering a workshop on research and documentation. Saturday March 6 starting at 12 noon at the Central Kitsap Regional Library. Discussion of how to approach research for a project, and how to document your work for contests up to the Kingdom level. Why it doesn't have to be scary, what judges are looking for and other questions. Cost is $2 to pay for the cost of the handout. Please RSVP 360-598-2654.

Chronicler: mailed out 85 flames, gained 2 new subscribers. Be sure to watch for your expiration date on the label and in the back of The Flames.

Chief Archer: Next youth archery day will be March 13 from 10 to 4PM. This will be the last special youth day if there is a lack of response.

Gold Key: Nothing to report

Librarian: Last month the Library received some great donations. "Metropolitan Jewelry" from the Metropolitan Museum of Art has fantastic color plates and was donated by HRM Laurellen. "Shoes," a celebration of pumps, sandals, slippers & more by Linda O'Keeffe donated by Elainia. And "Women in Celtic Myth," tales of extraordinary women from the ancient Celtic tradition by Moyra Caldecott. I have these books with me tonight if anyone would like to check them out.

Waterbearer: Nothing to report

Pied Piper: Greetings unto the populace of Dragon's Laire from Allaura. During the month of February I attended the Western Region Feast and had a great time. There was not a Pied Piper at the event. I wish to thank everyone who showed concern after my health but I am doing better and am no longer wearing the brace. I am still looking for a deputy as I am stepping down from the position of Baronial Pied Piper after June Faire. I will still keep the commitments to the people that I have told I will be there during the up coming tourney season.

Gamesmaster: I brought a number of games to Candalmas and people had fun playing with them. H. L. Kassandra also had a number of games at the Regional Feast and they were constantly in use. The big game that the barony had this month was at the Regional Feast - the nine-mens-morris game using living pieces between the King and Baron Walter. It was fun. The February games night was well attended. The first part of the night, following the impromptu potluck, was spent looking at games Shalimariah might wish to use in her Sarjentry Trials. We then got into a vicious game of Poch with Malcolm and Lela coming out way ahead. The next games night will be the second Monday of March, March 8th, at 6:30 PM. Unless I add a third class, it appears that games nights will continue to be on the second Monday of each month through June. We will see what the future brings.

GUILDS

Culinary Guild/Spiritmakers: Due to illness and other considerations The Feb. meeting was sparsely attended. Subjects previously scheduled for discussion will be added to next month's agenda.

March meeting: An update of the revised schedule will be posted on the DL list shortly. Interested Parties not currently on the list may call HL Mattueas AT 598-3464 or e-mail him at mhenson@telebyte.com for the update. Sorry about the lack of preparation but frankly March snuck up on me when I wasn't looking.

Costumer Guild: March 27th, 10 am to dark, sewing party for MacBeth/Gold Key. Watch for upcoming banner making class. Costumer's Guild Ranking and Symposium, May 15- Hyla Middle School on Bainbridge Island. Site fee is $15, allowing you to take any classes you wish, $3 if you wish to attend the revel only. We may have need of crash space for folks, please let me know if you can help.

Dance Guild: No report

Bardic Guild: Preparations are underway for a shadow-puppet show at June Faire. NO, this is not THAT kind of puppet show, it is in conjunction with the Pied Piper and will give kids a chance to build puppets during the day, and we'll have a lighted stage to show the story in true Far East puppet show style. I am striving to attend fighter practice more regularly, and am always available by email or phone. DON'T forget about Ermine Cross Bardic coming up this month, an opportunity to see a LOT of different bards and an opportunity to participate in a judged competition! This will be my first (formerly known as) "Celtic" Bardic, and I am looking very much forward to it.

Thingmakers Guild: Guild in hiatus

Combat Engineers Guild: Meetings will continue thru march at fighter practice, though Thursday's will remian bad for Marcus. An accident has caused the destruction of the trebuchet before it could be test fired. Plans to have the trbuchet Mark II up and working prior to May Crown.

Middle Eastern Guild (MECA): Nothing to report

Our most heartfelt thanks to Her Majesty and His Excellency for gracing the event. We

would also like to thank - and hope we don't forget anyone - HL Eoin for giving us a great tool for gate, Lady Moyra for running lists, HL Drakkus and Gawyn for running the tournament, Ceinan, Richard Alenthor and Lord Phillip for tending to Heraldry, HL Aarontious and Lord Bjorn for teaching dance, HL Eric for bringing the games, HL Rycheza for her Exchequor assistance and Culinary Guild support, the Minstrals of Soundstream for entertaining, and the members of the Spenser Longfellow Trading Company who set-up, decorated (it looked soooo cool), prepped, served, entertained and cleaned up.
