Carson Pegasus Winter Camp 2002
Whitecourt, Venturers
Day 1 Friday Night:
So we met up at 4:30 pm on Friday night to pack up all of our equipment and food
for the trip, which took us about 15 to 20 minutes to accomplish. We then hopped
in the vehicles and headed to the acclaimed Venturer Island. We got to the
trailhead and put on our packs for the trek inward. We hiked for about 200
meters and then came to the conclusion that the river is frozen and decided to
walk on it and hope to not die. We soon got to our camp after we trekked for
about 800 meters more. Derek and Hans then decided to stay and help set up camp
for about an hour. We got the lean-tos set up and Derek and Hans then left,
shortly after we set up a very early mug up, and tried desperately to get a fire
lit. Unfortunately when we bought the matches that said, “Buy us cause we Suck”,
so it took us that much longer to light the fire. But eventually we found
Skylars Zippo and we were on our way. Soon after we were all warm inside. We
talked for about an hour and then we went to pack up our food and take it to the
bear pole. Which unfortunately was attacked by a bear and no longer exists in
our little venturer world. So we tried our best place it in the air, we only got
it 3 feet up but hey work with us here. We decided that we would fix this
catastrophic event tomorrow. As for the rest of the night we decided to spend it
in bed making fun of how much Scott likes Sofiano’s sister. Good Night!
Day 2 Saturday:
We awoke the next morning to find that we were still alone from our fellow
venturers and were as cold as the weather outside our body. Matt soon found that
Scott’s emergency blanket was an evil piece of crap and deserved to be burned as
it dumped all of its frost on him and made him and his sleeping bag very wet to
make for an uncomfortable sleep. But whose whining right! We all painfully got
out of our sleeping bags and made a fire. However it wasn’t all that quick cause
now even the Zippo was giving us trouble now, but soon after cursing it to death
it lit us a nice warm fire. We then broke out the food and began a fiesta, sorry
not really, but it was warm of course only the oatmeal going in was. Soon after
thawing our feet and other body limbs we saw our fellow venturers emerge from
the river, and we then began feel better as we now knew that not every one sold
us out. So the rest of our group was here now. So we decided that it was time to
do opening, preformed by Skylar and Joel. The Matthew McGrath and Thomas McGrath
were assigned to fix the bear pole, which was done very well. We then got the
rest of the camp setup with the group. We then were going to attempt lunch,
gourmet Kraft Dinner from our top cook Thomas.
Soon after lunch we then decided it was time to warm up and play a wide game.
The game was going to be Matt’s new game “Agents” which is a upper class version
of capture the flag. We split up into teams and were ready to start. After a few
minutes we had to change some of the guidelines to accommodate the island and to
keep things simple, it was new game so it took some tweaking, but soon after we
were all having fun, well except for Scott who was whining cause we re-started
after he was winning. But no problem, I think we all enjoyed to game. After that
we decided to go by the fire and warm up, as it was pretty chilly you know like
–18oC. It took us a little while to warm up, with hot drinks and a warm fire.
Hans decided that he would make a fire a little ways down the riverbed; Matt
thought it was to big, Hans thought other wise, but oh well. By the time we were
done warming up it was time to cook supper, which was done by the master cooks
Derek and Matt. However we would be eating with out buns and cheese as Matt
forgot them. But we will just leave that little bit out. So we decided we would
just eat them with the buns and cheese. Due to popular belief they weren’t that
bad like that. After supper Hans got his fire lit and we all enjoyed its
beautiful heat. Not everybody was up to playing another wide game so we just sat
around and talked about how much the Oliers rock and how “Team Fag”(Red Wings)
doesn’t. After that lovely conversation about the hockey teams and Canada’s
crappy government we decided to call it a night. We went to bed and laid there
talking about Sofs sister again and had as some good ol jokes and tossed little
insults across from lean-to to lean-to which was done for about an hour or so
till we all fell asleep.
Day 3 Sunday:
Well we once had to get up to a painfully cold morning, which took us about 1 ½
hours to accomplish. We were all at the fire finally enjoying some hot oatmeal.
Then we announced camp clean up to be done after opening, which no one wanted to
do as it was way to cold for it, but we did any way. Then we decided it was time
to do the clean up which took us a little while, Matt and Sof walked to the
parking lot to bring some stuff to make the main walk out less painful. We
walked back and soon after we got there it was time to head home, as our rides
would be waiting there. We were wrong, they weren’t there yet, well Matt’s dad
was there which took him and Scott home, with something to wash.
