Snodaze 2001 Log
1st Whitecourt Venturers
Well the weekend started out
just like any other weekend. The Stallion Rick pulled up in his beast of a truck
listening to the coolest band on the face of this earth. (Audio Adrenaline)
Derek and Greg were to involved with other things to listen to this awesome
music. But they got their share of it later on in the weekend. We received our
first dilemma a couple nights before we arrived at the camp. Cougars had been
placed in the area. Concern had been expressed over the safety of the Venturers.
And people didn't like the idea of us campin across the highway. ( I think they
didn't wanna have to fill out the paperwork for the insurance money.) We were
really dis-appointed but realized that the right decision had been made later on
in the weekend. Ok back to the camp. We came into the camp and Vicki made it
aware that Steve wanted us to camp in the area with all the other lower-beings.
We did not like that. So we didn't take no for an answer and decided to scope
out the area. We went across the creek (which was pretty easy seeing as it was
frozen) and found this perfect area. Rick was a little concerned because of all
the little prickles and the location of the spot but that could all be taken
care with a little help from the axe. So we got it cleared by Steve no problem.
After moving up all our heavy equipment which only Venturers could haul we
started to set up our shelter. This took a long time and a lot of patience. But
we finished and decided to go down to the fire and amuse the leaders and torment
the scouts. We had us some gooder pies. (which I think the leaders were drooling
over) We had fun doin this then it started to get dark. So the Venturers decided
to get creative and bring out the glow-sticks. Many of the junior scouts were
amused when we threw them in the air and they looked like fireworks. It was
cool. But then they got bored of this. So they tried stealing them. It was quite
fun getting them back. Then mine broke. Man do u ever glow when u have that
stuff on you. It was sweet I was like something from the x-files for most of the
night. That was fun but then we decided to go to bed. But then Greg cut open his
and then he looked like he had alien feet. They were glowin all over the field
it was sweet. We went back to camp and took out the crib board. I think Derek
won the first game but I would have my revenge. We played a lot of Crib that
weekend. It was lots of fun. Before we went to bed. A Venturer from Edson and a
Senior Scout came up to our camp and decided to hang for a while. They went back
and we went to bed. It wasn't nearly as cold as our winter camp but without the
humungo fire there to keep us warm it still could have been wonderful. But we
were all very thank-full there was no snow.
Day 2
We awoke very early. I think it was like 7:30 way to early. We got out of bed
very coldly it was quite amusing. We made breakfast and then went down to the
campfire. About 10:00am we were divided up. NOOOO!!!! but we survived. We had
opening which I think was a make shift unorganized opening. But it was still
good and we got through it. After opening we were sent to make shelters out of
what we were provided trading to get all what we needed. We were also required
to make an egg. That proved to be an interesting egg. Our shelter (Derek, Rick)
I think was the best. But it was harder to put up because it took us a while to
figure out how to put the thing together. But we did it and when it was over we
got creative. We decided to build a tower. We were almost building our very
sturdy tower when Mr. Horn went off. Darn we didn't get to finish. :) Now it was
time to get split. We will go through my day because I don't know what the
others day was like. First I started out on Wagons Ho. Heh heh heh. I thought
I'm fast I can win this easily. Well I was wrong so wrong. Those kids are heavy.
But it was fun. I fell and got all wet in the water and then ripped my good
pants. I was dis-appointed but it was great fun. We finally finished that after
I was exhausted we went over to the Bull-riding thingy. It isn't as easy as it
looks. We got Greg up there and it was incredibly funny. He got bucked right
over the front right away. I went on and didn't fair much better. I fell over
the side and it felt like I broked every bonage in my body. But I got up and the
stupid thing broke. After a 20 min delay it was time to switch events. Next I
had parachute games. They were incredibly interesting. First we did the mushroom
cloud thingy then we did Cat and Mouse. But then came the real fun. Someone
would get in the middle and we would throw them in the air. We started out with
some heavier people. We thought it was gonna suck but were we wrong. This kid
Tyler who weighs about 50lbs. Went on and I think we threw him 15 feet in the
air. It was cool. I thought the kid was gonna fall off. He almost did. I didn't
get to go on. I think my heavy weight (from all the muscle) would have prevented
them from throwing me. After this we had Archery. (heh heh heh) We had to let
those little things they call Beavers go first. But when my turn came I was
pumped. My first shot missed completely. (I was a little rusty) My second shot
hit the deer right in the shoulder. And my third shot hit the thing in the butt.
We retrieved our arrows, and when I was pulling out arrow the deer fell apart. I
was like what's up here. U would have thought I shot this thing with a bazooka
that way the thing fell apart. They reminded me that this thing was made of
plastic. And I was like oh yeah. Also there was this half-pig in the middle.
What happened did they get hungry or something? We played us a game of football
and Rick dominated. heh heh heh Well that was all of the activities planned for
the afternoon. We went and had supper and invited the other Venturer (Michael)
to come and join us. He agreed and asked to stay the night. We said yeah no
prob. We ate our delicious steak and I had my cooked potatoe that wasn't burnt
and was cooked. Derek had decided earlier to put butter in his so it wouldn't
burn. He was wrong. AGAIN. His burnt. They were still good. After Supper there
was nothing planned. So we put our heads together and tried to organize a
campfire. It was very frustrating at first but we got through it. We sang some
songs I hadn't heard in a while and saw some interesting skits. I will have to
applaud Derek and Matt for putting on a skit which was rather amusing. One which
I was to stubborn to take part in. Then came the biggest dis-appointment of the
camp. We played Capture the glow-stick. It didn't work out quite like I wanted
too. Derek and Matt were set on cheating so the game didn't go to well. We said
screw this. And quit and went back to camp. We played us some more cards and saw
Rick beat Greg. (again) Then we decided to crash we had had a long day.
Day 3
Saturday night didn't turn out much warmer for some of us. When we awoke Sunday
morning we was cold. Rick went down to the fire to warm up. When he went there
he found out that he was short something. He didn't have his dishes. He then
remembers that he had left them outside the night before and someone must have
picked them up. I found them and Yogi made me do the prairie flower for them bit
I was lucky I didn't have to do it in front of everybody. But I got Breakfast
out of the deal. After everyone had Breakfast and washed their dishes. The
Venturers were asked to have a part in Scouts Own. So Matt and Derek read a
verse from the bible, on the environment. Sarge led a really good Scouts Own.
After that we had a short closing and then everyone was to pack up and go home.
Well we had other plans. We waited until almost everyone was gone and then
decided to start packing up. But before that we had to play some more cards. I
beat both Derek and Greg. : ) None of us wanted to go home. So we decided to
check out our old campsite. Man they are gonna be able to tell that we camped
there forever. Maybe we should consider leaving no sign we were there next time.
Hmmm. After this we decided that we should go on and look for future camp sites.
We were hiking along and found our pond where we went beaver fishin.. The ice
looked way different than before. Apparently from all the warm weather we had
been havin in melted some of the water and it drained from the pond. So there
was a big crevace. With some thin ice on top. I could say we weren't very
cautious. But we are Venturers so what can u expect. After takin endless amounts
of pics and foolin around with logs (Javelins) we decided to hike on. We found
some excellent spots to get Diamond Willow from. So in the future we may make
hiking sticks. We came upon a high bank which Derek and Rick decided to climb.
After they made it to the top they found a clearing which turned out to be Eagle
River. But what was even more interesting. There was an island right in the
middle of it. We thought excellent. We may now have found a hiking spot. We then
decided to hike out to the island, and see what there was on there. After
returning to the vehicles and listenin to some gooder music. We proceeded on to
the river. After a hike which seemed to be about 2 km (1/2 hour) we came upon
the island. Once we arrived there we came upon a tree which we couldn't fit into
a photograph. It was HUGE!!!! After scouting the island we came upon another
humungo tree. Shortly after that we found a spot where we could camp. It doesn't
look like much now but when we get there. U will see. heh heh heh. : ) We sat
around and discussed the possibility of other members joining. It then came to
my knowledge that they are allowed to join now. I was totally clue-less to this.
After this we proceeded to hike out of the bush and go home. THE END
