Welcome to the Science assignment page. This page will display a listing of the work we have done. Each assignment also includes the points that it is worth in green. (Highlighted items can be downloaded).
Parents: This page is provided so you can check with your son or daughter to make sure they have completed all assignments needed for the class.
Independent Projects:
Each quarter of the year, students
are expected to complete 50 points worth of independent projects.
Independentprojects
allow students to research, test, explore, and learn about any science
related topic the student is interested in. I think it is best if
they come up with their own projects and activities, but I also provide
some that they can choose from. These are listed below.
Grading Independent Projects:
In general making observations
of visible planets, meteor showers, unusual rocks, bugs, leaves and bringing
them in to class or a bringing in a signed note saying that they saw them
is worth about 5 points. Making observation and then collecting
data, making sketches, building models or demonstrating an activity in
class, or identifying objects scientifically, is worth 5-10 points.
Projects with data tables, graphs, write-ups or that involves designing
parts, or construction of complicated models are worth 15-25 points.
Long term projects, or projects involved with a lot of testing and tuning,
or major labs requiring the analysis of data or conclusions of data are
usually worth up to 25 points.
Outstanding projects that show
lots of effort and learning or a long term commitment can be worth over
25
points.
