The Rising Sun Solar Race team joined hpra this year to gain experience in racing and to learn the newest and most advanced methods for designing and constructing human powered vehicles.  Check out our Racing Results page to see some pictures of the team and how we faired  in our first year of hpra racing
 

     The Solar BikeRayce USA is a highschool level competition where students, design, build and test solar assisted race bikes in an international competition held in Kansas.

     The Solar BikeRayce USAdevelops scientific knowledge through hands-on experiences.  Not only is it a competition of human endurance, but a competition of the human mind where science, technology, and math are intertwined.  It is a way to apply what students have learned and inspire them to be the inventors and engineers of the future.  Hans Tholstrup designer of the first solar car to cross a continent and originator of the World Solar Challenge a solar race across Australia, sums it up best by calling solar racing  "Brain sport", a competition of the mind and body.

     This solar bike road-rayce combines solar power, human power, and ingenuity. The 2002 Solar Express is a 600 km rayce from Topeka, Kansas to Jefferson City, MO

     The solar express is run by the same people who sponsor the Solar BikeRayce USA.  In fact the 100km Solar BikeRayce will be the qualifier for this much more gruelling event.

     Teams must organize, supply and maintain a solar rayce bike for several days across Kansas.  Can we do it?  Will we do it? We will try our best.
