Destiny of the Dragon

Mark walked out of the cave into the strange world. He had never seen this place before. The trees and rocks were oddly shaped and had unnatural colours. Surprisingly calm, he continued to walk towards a flickering fire he could see through the strange trees.

It was a campfire. Around the fire sat some of the strangest people he had ever seen. A small bald man, a tall man with green skin, and a bulky man with dark hair wearing a strange orange set of clothing.

"Pardon me for interrupting," Mark stepped towards the men, politely as always, "but I seem to have lost my way. Could you possibly tell me where I am?"

The three men did not seem to hear him, so Mark walked closer.

"Uh.. pardon me?"

Still no response.

Mark stood right next to the bulky dark-haired man, whom the others were calling "Goku" and waved his hands in front of the man's face. They still acted as if he wasn't there. Suddenly Goku jumped up, startling Mark into stumbling backwards, RIGHT INTO THE FIRE!!

Mark jumped up out of the fire and frantically checked for burns. He was shocked to realise that not only was he completely unharmed, but he didn't feel the fire at all!!

A sudden movement caught his attention and Mark turned to see another group of strange … men (he supposed) appear. They were all strangely built, with odd coloured skin and even odder clothing. One of them gestured to a group of large red balls that weres in the possession of those sitting around the campfire, and although Mark couldn't understand what language they were speaking, it was obvious they wanted them.

The men at the campfire leapt up, and after what seemed like an eternity but had to have only been seconds, the fight ensued. Mark could hardly see what was happening, they were so fast and powerful. He stepped backwards, and found himself falling.

He opened his eyes to find himself in his bed, and realised the whole scene he had just witnessed was a dream.

He sat up and rubbed his face, reaching to pull on his glasses. When he looked up he almost jumped in fear.

At the foot of his bed stood a man, but a man that he could see right through! It had to be a ghost!

"Be calm, Mark. I am the spirit of your great-great-great-great grandfather."

That didn't calm Mark down at all!

"What are you doing here?" he cried out.

"I am here to tell you your destiny."

This caught Mark's interest.

"You see, Mark, Many many many years ago I came to this planet from my own in order to save my baby son, your great-great-great grandfather."

"You mean, you aren't from Earth??" Mark asked

"No. We are from a planet in a far away galaxy. I was on a quest to find the Dragon Balls, when my ship was attacked. My wife died and I was the only one, who could save our son, so I brought him here, to Earth. I placed him in the care of humans and went back on my quest. I was killed as well. But now, now you are the one that will be bestowed with the power."

"Power? What power?"

"You have a great power inside of you. You could be the strongest there is. Stronger than anyone, stronger than Son Goku!"

Mark's eyes widened at the name, the man he had seen in his dream!

"Goku?? I had a dream…"

"That was no dream. That was a vision I showed you, so that you could see who you would have to go up against, and how powerful you will be, and CAN be."

"But why should I obtain these Dragon Balls? What are they for?"

"Whoever uses these is granted a wish, any wish at all. They must be kept out of the hands of evil. That is why you must get them."

Mark sat silently for a moment. This was all sudden, but it didn't seem wrong. In fact, he felt that it was perfectly right, that he was MEANT to do this.

"Okay. I will do it."

And for the next few weeks Mark trained at the instruction of his great-great-great-great grandfather until he could fight like the men he had seen in his vision.

It was late in the evening on the fourth day of his third week of training when his grandfather deemed him ready.

"Now is where I leave. You have gained much strength and power and will be able to defeat those in your path, but do not forget to be compassionate and kind, for those are the reasons why you can go far and why you alone can gain the power of the dragon balls."

"I won't great-great-great-great grandfather." Mark assured him.

"My great-great-great-great grandson… you make me proud. Now go, Mark. Go and fulfill the destiny of the Nguyen family!" And with that, the spirit disappeared.

Mark took a deep breath. He was alone now. Whatever he did he had to decide on his own, he no longer had the guidance of his great-great-great-great grandfather. But over the weeks he had learned many things, but most importantly he learned to trust in his own abilities. And so he left on his journey.

He arrived on the alien planet where the fight for the dragon balls was taking place. It had to have been near a month since the fight began, and it was still going in full strength. Many of the fighters were injured, and watching from the sidelines in anxious impatience. The green man, the bald man, and a few of the alien men watched as the biggest, strongest alien fought against the man called Goku.

Unlike before, Mark could now follow the movements of the fighters with ease. He walked up to the pair, stopped by the green man blocking his path.

Mark casually and easily flung the other man aside and stepped towards the fighters, separating them easily. They fought against his push, but were not strong enough. He held them both at arm length, opposite to each other.

"Fighting is not the answer. Fighting cannot get you the power you desire. Showing another kindness and consideration, being gentle and respectful will give you more power than any punch or kick ever could." Mark told them, solemnly.

The Alien looked shocked. Goku gaped at him.

"You… you are the mythical Mark… I was told one day you would arrive and put an end to all fighting in the universe… I never believed it until now." The Alien said with awe.

Goku's gape turned to a look of utmost admiration.

"Mark, you are right. I had forgotten the true meaning of power. It doesn't lie in strength of body, but in strength of heart. I needed you to remind me of that. Thank you."

Mark smiled at the two and let them go.

"I have to ask you to give the dragon balls to me, Son Goku."

Goku nodded and motioned for his friends to bring them. They did, and soon they were in Mark's care.

The Aliens walked up to Mark, and bowed their heads.

"Always have we heard stories of the selflessness and kindness that the mythical Mark would possess, but never did we think that we would witness such a thing. Take the dragon balls, Mark, for they are destined to be yours and you are destined to bring happiness to us all." The head Alien told him, then they walked off to their ship, leaving the planet forever.

Mark waved as the Aliens left, and then turned back to the Dragon Balls.

"It's now time to finish what my great-great-great-great grandfather started years ago."

And with that, Mark used the power of the Dragon Balls to wish for eternal peace all over the universe. The wish was granted.
