Over dinner, Kalian and her father managed to get into an argument about her dropping grades, and Kalian stomped off to her room in a fit. Sitting on her bed with her arms crossed, glaring at her reflection in her mirror, she wondered why parents were always so meddlesome. They always seemed as if they were out to ruin your fun. Which, she concluded thoughtfully, they usually were.
She spent the rest of the evening in her room and refused to speak to anyone else in her family. She finished up the last of her homework and climbed into bed to go to sleep--but as hard as she tried, she just couldn't fall asleep. After tossing and turning for more than an hour, she finally gave up.
