Dialogue

Teacher: Let me ask you this, then: Is it right that any person should use a woman’s body, particularly her sexual organs, for his own selfish ends, without her consent?

Voter: Certainly not!

Teacher: And, if anyone should attempt so to use a woman’s body, particularly her sexual organs, is she justified in using force to prevent the action?

Voter: Yes--that is why I support women’s self-defense classes, and such. In fact, I believe it is her responsibility to fight back, if it is to be believed that she didn’t want to be used.

Teacher: Then you would agree that she is justified in using even deadly force, if that is what is necessary to prevent her body from being used against her will?

Voter: Yes, I believe so.

Teacher: What if the person who would use her body, however selfishly and without her consent, is a simpleton--who, because of mental deficiency, is not able to comprehend ethics or morality, and accompanies his actions with no malice? If such an innocent attempts to use a woman’s body as we have described, is she still justified in preventing it?

Voter: A profoundly retarded person? Of course!

Teacher: And she is justified in using even deadly force, if necessary, in that case?

Voter: Yes.

Teacher: And, in fact, would you say that it is her right to do so?

Voter: That’s what I just said, isn’t it? Yes!

Teacher: All right, then it appears that we agree that, if a person--even a person with no malicious intent, mentally unable to form such intent--attempts to use a woman’s body, particularly her sexual organs, for his own selfish ends and without her consent, then she is justified in using even deadly force to prevent this action?

Voter: Yes, already! We certainly agree on that!

Teacher: Then I have made my case, and we agree. It is a woman’s right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, whether or not the fetus is to be considered human and innocent.
